Good morning. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# The DA rejects the appointment of ANC cadres as SETA administrators
# Netanyahu accuses the Australian prime minister of betraying Israel
# And rugby: A double injury blow for the All Blacks
# The DA rejects Higher Education and Training minister Buti Manamela’s appointment of administrators to three Sector Education and Training Authorities. The minister’s intervention follows serious and entrenched governance failures in these entities, including procurement irregularities, corruption, lapses in oversight and board instability. The DA’s Karabo Khakhau says Oupa Nkoane, Lehlohonolo Masoga, and Zukile Mvalo are ANC cadres who have been implicated in corruption:
# National police commissioner Fannie Masemola has directed the deployment of Western Cape Serious Violent Crime investigators to track down and arrest all the suspects involved in the brazen attack on three members of Parliament in Philippi, Cape Town. The chairperson of Parliament’s portfolio committee on Police, Ian Cameron, and two of his DA colleagues were victims of an attempted hijacking following their oversight visit to the police training college. Police spokesperson, Nonkululeko Phokane, says one suspect has been arrested:
# The Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse called on Tourism minister Patricia de Lille to support the South African Tourism board following the suspension of CEO Nombulelo Guliwe. The move follows forensic and Auditor-General reports highlighting governance breaches involving a four-million-rand payment to a service provider for the failed Dubai expo during the Covid-19 pandemic. OUTA CEO Wayne Duvenage urges De Lille to urgently appoint a new chairperson to ensure accountability and protect taxpayers’ money.
Moving abroad:
# Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu has accused his Australian counterpart, Anthony Albanese, of having betrayed Israel for recognising a Palestinian state. This comes after far-right Israeli politician Simcha Rothman’s Australian visa was cancelled ahead of a visit to the country on Monday, where he had been due to speak at events organised by the Australian Jewish Association. Netanyahu says Albanese is a weak politician who has abandoned Australia’s Jews. Australian Immigration minister Tony Burke says they reject Netanyahu’s incendiary criticism.
# Rugby: New Zealand will be without Patrick Tuipulotu and Anton Lienert-Brown for their second Rugby Championship match against Argentina in Buenos Aires on Saturday. Tuipulotu sustained a facial injury in their 41-24 victory over the Pumas last weekend. The 56-Test veteran is expected to be sidelined for around six-weeks. Lienert-Brown, who sustained a head knock, is undergoing concussion protocols to determine his return to action. All Blacks coach Scott Robertson has admitted that losing such experienced players is a setback for his team.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-69-cents and the euro at 20-rand-58-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-87-cents and Bitcoin trades at 113-thousand-714-dollars. Gold sells at three-thousand-325-dollars-45-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 65-dollars-90-cents a barrel.
