# The Gauteng Traffic Police says it will intensify law enforcement operations across the province today to ensure that holidaymakers return home safely. Police spokesperson, Sello Maremane says the heightened traffic police visibility is aimed at ensuring road safety and reducing road crashes along the major routes in the province. He says this morning and afternoon, major routes in the province are expected to be busy:
# One person was killed and 30 injured in a bus accident on the P100 Road in Ndwedwe north of Durban. The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport and Human Settlements spokesperson, Ndabezinhle Sibiya says the bus was transporting mourners from several denominations including the Nazareth Baptist Church. Sibiya says according to a road traffic team, the bus caught fire:
# The Department of Water and Sanitation is urging residents of Tshitomboni and Tswinga villages in Limpopo not to consume or sell the dead fish from the Nandoni Dam and the Luvuvhu River. Spokesperson Mandla Mathebula says samples of dead fish were preserved for pathological analysis, which will commence when laboratories reopen next week. He says this should enable the department to identify the cause of the fish mortality:
# Russia claims to have shot down eight US-made ATACMS missiles fired by Ukraine. Moscow sees the use of such missiles, which have a range of up to 300 kilometers, as a major escalation. Russia’s Ministry of Defense said the actions by the Kyiv regime will be met with retaliation. The outgoing US president Joe Biden approved Kyiv’s use of ATACMS in November. Ukraine is also concerned that the incoming Trump administration could cut vital military aid. Trump himself has vowed to end the conflict.
# And soccer: Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford will miss today’s Premier League clash against leaders Liverpool at Anfield because of illness. The 27-year-old Rashford was left out of the squad for four straight matches before being named on the bench for their game against Newcastle United, which Head coach Ruben Amorim’s side lost 2-0 at Old Trafford. Rashford has scored 138 goals in 426 appearances since making his senior debut for the club in 2016, winning the Europa League, two FA Cups and the League Cup twice.
