# Judges punishing rioters for the unrest on 6 January 2021 fear the nation might face more political violence. They say Donald Trump is spreading the same sort of conspiracy theories and the political climate is ripe for another attack like the one that injured more than 100 police officers. Trump continues to deny any responsibility for the crimes of his supporters. He has instead vowed to pardon rioters, whom he calls patriots and hostages, if he wins in November. More than one-thousand people have been convicted and sentenced for crimes relating to the riot.
# And, motorsport: Red Bull’s Max Verstappen won the United States Grand Prix sprint race at Austin on Saturday from the Ferrari of Carlos Sainz. Verstappen stretched his lead over title rival Lando Norris by two points to 54 points. This was Verstappen’s first win of any sort since his sprint win at the Austrian Grand Prix weekend in June. Norris, however, resisted pace and pressure from Verstappen to take pole position for today’s Grand Prix. It is his fourth pole position in five races. Verstappen will start second on the grid.
