# The EFF says it joins the nation in mourning the loss of former Reserve Bank governor, Labour and Finance minister Tito Mboweni. The EFF’s spokesperson, Leigh-Ann Mathys says while they often found themselves at odds with the former minister on policy matters, disagreeing with his neo-liberal and orthodox approach to economic policy, Mboweni was always open to robust, frank and intellectual exchanges. She says despite differences, he did not shy away from engaging in rigorous debate:
# Minister of Police Senzo Mchunu has handed over 51 new vehicles to the Hawks to intensify it’s fight against serious crimes in the country. Hawks spokesperson, Wendy Nkabi says the fleet will greatly enhance resources and enable police officers, particularly those serving within the Hawks to better serve and protect citizens. She says this vehicles will not only strengthen policing but also improve the police’s ability to respond promptly and effectively to national priority offences:
# The Chinese government says it will “significantly increase” government debt issuance to offer subsidies to people with low incomes, support the property market and replenish state banks’ capital as it pushes to revive sputtering economic growth. Economic data in recent months has missed forecasts, raising concerns that the government’s roughly five-percent growth target this year is at risk. September’s data, which will be released over the coming week, is expected to show further weakness, but officials are confident that the 2024 target will be met.
# The Western Cape Department of Local Government says during the 2023/2024 financial year, more than 1.3 million residents in the province accessed essential government services through the Thusong Programme. The DA’s Dave Bryant says through the Thusong Programme, citizens have been able to access a broad spectrum of services such as education, health, housing and human settlements safety and security and social services, all conveniently situated in central locations:
# And, rugby: The Springbok Women went down fighting in a 23-19 loss to Italy in their final match of the 2024 WXV 2 tournament at the Athlone Stadium in Cape Town yesterday. South Africa went into the WXV2 clash as underdogs, having lost their previous fixtures against Italy by 25 and 18 points respectively. The match saw them finish on eight league points, the same as Italy, but just behind the Europeans on points difference. Australia claimed the WXV 2 title by beating Scotland, who finished second on nine points, in the final game on Saturday.
