# The MK Party has expressed disappointment after the Johannesburg High Court dismissed their urgent application to postpone this week’s Judicial Service Commission interviews. Spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela criticised the decision to proceed, warning of future litigation and controversy surrounding these judicial appointments. He said the party will issue a detailed response following legal and political consultations:
# The High Court in Durban has reserved judgment in Thoshan Panday’s bail appeal, with a decision expected on Monday. Panday’s 7.3-million-rand tax fraud case has been transferred to the high court for 24 October. The Investigating Directorate Against Corruption spokesperson Henry Mamothame says a transcript on Westville Prison officials’ will be sent to the Correctional Services national commissioner for investigation:
# The Israeli military says it has struck what it calls “weapons storage facilities” and “terrorist infrastructure sites” belonging to Hezbollah overnight. It says numerous steps were taken to minimise civilian casualties, including warnings to the population in the area. In the central Gaza Strip at least five people were killed and 20 wounded in an Israeli air strike on a mosque in Deir al-Balah. The mosque was used to house displaced people and casualties are expected to rise. Meanwhile, prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said Israel will not accept Iran’s missile attacks.
# Motorsport: The Italian Francesco Bagnaia won the Japan MotoGP sprint after rookie Pedro Acosta crashed while leading. Bagnaia has now closed the gap on the Spanish championship leader Jorge Martin to 15 points. Enea Bastianini was second while Marc Marquez finished third. Martin, who started eleventh, finished fourth to maintain his lead in the overall standings. South Africa’s Brad Binder, who was fastest in Friday’s practice, did not finish the sprint due to a technical problem.
# And, Zoalize Jansen van Rensburg, was crowned 2024 Miss World South Africa last night at the Sun City Superbowl. The 18-year-old from Pretoria triumphed over runner-ups Romanda Hombi and Nande Mabala. Van Rensburg’s project, ‘Never Too Young to Advocate,’ is a digital platform that focuses on creating global visibility as well as audibility for the youth. It aims to elevate youth voices through social media. She hopes to bring the Miss World crown back to South Africa.
