Good morning. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# The DA says the fuel price cuts are a testament to the benefits of the government of national unity
# Cosatu welcomes the deployment of specialists to probe the Lusikisiki massacre
# And JD Vance meets Tim Walz in the US vice presidential debate
# The DA says the significant fuel price cuts for October are a testament to the growing confidence in South Africa’s economy, and the tangible benefits of the government of national unity. Ninety-three octane petrol’s price decreased by one-rand-six-cents and 95 octane decreased by 1-rand-14-cents. The diesel price decreased by between one-rand-12- and one-rand-14-cents per litre. The DA is encouraged by the promising signs of economic recovery, lower inflation, and the restoration of hope across the country.
Meanwhile, Build One South Africa has urged the government of national unity to adopt a comprehensive plan for governance. They scored the government’s first 100 days at a 50-percent success rate, highlighting the lack of shared policy direction, resulting in delays on key issues like the BELA Act and the National Health Insurance. BOSA leader Mmusi Maimane warns that policy deadlocks and growing divisions threaten the administration’s stability:
# Cosatu in the Eastern Cape has welcomed the deployment of specialised police personnel and resources to investigate the Lusikisiki mass shooting. Eighteen people were shot dead, including 12 women, in the Ngobozana village at the weekend. Cosatu’s spokesperson, Zanele Sabela, says the shooting has left the province and the country at large reeling at its brutality and impunity:
# The US vice-presidential debate between Republican JD Vance and Democrat Tim Walz saw the two tackle divisive issues including immigration, abortion, and the January 6 insurrection on Capitol Hill. Vance repeatedly criticised vice president Kamala Harris on border security, while Walz lambasted former president Donald Trump on abortion rights. Walz cast Trump as a liar who rejects truths he finds unfavourable, including falsely claiming he won the 2020 elections:
# Cricket: Former English played Dawid Malan believes Brendon McCullum is the right man to get the country’s white ball team back to winning ways. The New Zealander will become head coach of all three formats from January after doing very well with the Test team. Malan says McCullum must fund the right balance between youth and experience to get the white ball teams back on track. He says England has the players to rebuild and become one of the best teams in the shorter formats again.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-33-cents and the euro at 19-rand-19-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-3-cents and Bitcoin trades at 61-thousand-650-dollars-50-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-652-dollars-67-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 75-dollars-1-cents a barrel.
