# Acting NPA head, Rodney de Kock, has announced enhanced prosecutor-guided investigations. Speaking at News24’s On The Record dialogue, de Kock said that the NPA’s Investigating Directorate Against Corruption is being bolstered by private-sector cooperation. De Kock also cited the extradition of Michael Lomas as a success. He emphasised partnerships, with the Financial Intelligence Centre handling 500 cases and achieving 60 convictions:
# The Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes Court sentenced a former MISA senior official, Lizeka Tonjeni to five years in prison for corruption linked to the Digital Vibes contract. Tonjeni, who was at the time employed by the Municipal Infrastructure Support Agency, received unauthorised payments of 160-thousand-rand while managing a four-million-rand tender. National Prosecutor Authority spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana says despite pleading not guilty, the court found her actions was fueled by greed:
# Al Jama-ah Party has expressed concern over South Africa’s reluctance to sever economic ties with Israel. The party has accused government of irrationally putting its membership to the World Trade Organisation first, instead of taking a firm stance against Israel and its alleged genocide against Palestine. Al Jama-ah’s Shameemah Salie has emphasised the need for stronger action against Israel:
# Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has pledged Israel will fight until “total victory” in its continuing war on Gaza. He promised to continue attacks on the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah. Netanyahu told delegates his country was at war and fighting for its life. Several delegations walked out as Netanyahu approached the lectern to speak while supporters in the gallery cheered. The Israeli leader told the 193-member assembly that the Palestinian group Hamas, which governs Gaza, should have no role in the reconstruction of the territory.
# And Golf: The International team made a historic comeback, sweeping the Americans 5-0 in Friday’s Presidents Cup foursomes, tying the scores at 5-5 at the Royal Montreal course in Canada. Mike Weir’s team rebounded after Thursday’s defeat, with standout performances from Hideki Matsuyama, Sungjae Im, and Adam Scott. Corey Connors, Mackenzie Hughes, Christiaan Bezuidenhout, Jason Day, Si Woo Kim, and Byeong Hun An completed the clean sweep, making it the first-ever reversal after an opening sweep loss in golf history.
