# Chief Justice Maya introduces a Sexual Harassment Policy for the judiciary
# The DA marches for stronger GBV resources in Ekurhuleni
# And minister Motsoaledi meets premier Saul to discuss the trouble in Northern Cape hospitals
# Chief Justice Mandisa Maya has unveiled a Sexual Harassment Policy for the Judiciary, reinforcing a zero-tolerance stance on abuse of power. The move follows growing calls for action within the legal profession following the Judicial Conduct Tribunal investigation into the conduct of Eastern Cape High Court Judge President Selby Mbenege, accused by a judge’s secretary, Andiswa Mengo. Advocacy groups like Judges Matter emphasised the need to focus on comprehensive policies and investigations to halt sexual harassment incidents. Maya says the policy will strengthen accountability and foster respect within the Judiciary.
Meanwhile, hundreds of DA supporters marched to Germiston Central Police Station, demanding better gender-based violence resources. Ekurhuleni recorded over one-thousand-600 murders in 2024, with many stations facing severe staff and vehicle shortages. DA Germiston Constituency Head, Michele Clarke, says the memorandum calls for more visible policing, stronger GBV support, and a targeted crime-reduction strategy, warning that the government is failing to protect vulnerable women and communities:
# The South African Democratic Teachers’ Union has expressed concern over newly gazetted draft regulations under the Basic Education Laws Amendment Act, calling for public comment. While the regulations address admissions and school capacity norms, SADTU spokesperson Nomusa Cembi warned against past ministerial guidelines aimed at delaying implementation and pushing a political agenda. She pledged strict vigilance and will submit her formal response before the 5 September deadline:
# Health minister Aaron Motsoaledi is on a visit to the Northern Cape to meet with premier Zamani Saul and Health MEC Maruping Lekwene. The meeting follows a damning report from the Health Ombud highlighting debilitating governance failures at the Northern Cape Mental Health Hospital and Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe Hospital. The facilities were found to suffer chronic neglect, contributing to patient harm and loss. The meeting aimed to chart swift corrective steps and restore functional, safe healthcare services for the province.
# And finally, sports news:

# And soccer: Mamelodi Sundowns began their title defense of the Premiership Soccer League with a 1-1 draw against Chippa United at the Nelson Mandela Bay stadium in Gqeberha yesterday.
