# Eskom says the implementation of stage six load-shedding over the past few days has allowed the replenishment of the emergency reserves at it pumped storage and open cycle gas turbine power stations. Due to this improvement, load-shedding will be reduced to stage 4 from 12 today until 5 tomorrow morning. Eskom spokesperson, Daphne Mokwena, says thereafter, stage three load-shedding will be implemented from 5am until 4pm tomorrow, followed by stage 4 from 4pm until 5am Tuesday:
# The ANC has strongly denounced the recent leaks criticising its candidate selection process for the 2024 general elections. The party says the unauthorised statements were made by individuals who lack the official capacity. The ANC’s spokesperson, Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri, says such behaviour violates it’s values and principles and will not be tolerated, as the party embodies a rich tradition of democratic practices. Bhengu-Motsiri says the 2024 national and provincial ANC candidate nominations resulted from a meticulous process led by the electoral committee of the party:
# Human Settlements minister Mmamoloko Kubayi is very concerned about the poor performance of provinces and metros regarding the Informal Settlement Upgrading Programme. The Buffalo City Municipality in the Eastern Cape is the exception and has performed remarkably well. Kubayi says it is an injustice that a great number of informal settlement dwellers lack basic human right services, yet the grant money, allocated for such services, is being underspent. The minister plans to convene meetings with metro municipalities, mayoral committee members for Human Settlements and senior officials to deal with performance concerns.
# The government of Malawi has announced it is now sending its unemployed young people to various countries, including Israel, to work on farms. The labour report programme is an initiative of the government, in collaboration with the private sector, to fulfill the administration’s commitment to job creation and youth empowerment as championed by president Lazarus Chakwera. The secretary for Labour, Wezi Kayira, says on the Israel labour export programme, young people will work at certified and approved locations which are classified as fit and safe environments.
# And, cricket: Newly-crowned one-day world champion Australia gets a chance to level the five-match T20-series against India today. The hosts took revenge for the World Cup final defeat by beating the Aussies in a nail-biter in Thursday’s first T20. Australia posted a good 208 for three, with wicketkeeper Josh Inglis contributing a quick-fire 110 runs off just 50 balls. India reached the target with eight wickets down and one ball left. The series will conclude on the third of next month.
