# The Electoral Court has dismissed the ANC’s application to have the IEC’s registration of the uMkhonto weSizwe Party overturned.
More elections news: ActionSA says its candidate list for the National Assembly and all nine provincial legislatures is diverse with an infusion of youth excellence. The party released the list today ahead of the 29 May elections with leader Herman Mashaba leading the pack. ActionSA’s national chairperson, Michael Beaumont, says the individuals elected to serve in the National Assembly offer the most credible and experienced contrast to a currently bloated cabinet of failed ministers and deputy ministers:
# Business Leadership South Africa says there is a trust problem in the country, centered on questions about the effectiveness of the criminal justice system, that is hampering investment. A notable case this past week is National Assembly speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula taking special leave amid a corruption investigation. BLSA CEO Busisiwe Mavuso says a well-functioning criminal justice system must be there as a backstop. However, she says confidence has been low in the justice system because it has battled to bring to book the many people implicated in corruption.
# The Western Cape Education Department says it has received 59-thousand-510 online applications for Grades one and eight learners for next year, as the on-time admissions window reaches the halfway point. The department received over 125-thousand applications last year. MEC David Maynier appeals to parents who still need to apply to do so immediately before the closing date of the 12th of next month:
# The US Department of Homeland Security raided homes in Los Angeles, Miami, and New York, belonging to musician and producer Sean Diddy Combs. This is reportedly linked to an ongoing sex trafficking investigation. In November last year, Combs settled a suit brought by his former girlfriend, singer Casandra Cassie Ventura, who alleged she was raped and subjected to years of repeated physical abuse. In December, at least two other civil lawsuits were filed against Combs with allegations of sexual assault and sex trafficking. He has denied the allegations.
# Rugby: England and Harlequins scrum-half Danny Care has announced his retirement from international rugby. The 37-year-old became only the sixth player to reach 100 England caps when he came off the bench in the Six Nations win over Ireland earlier this month. He made his England debut in 2008. Care says getting the opportunity to represent his country over the past 16 years has been amazing:
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-85-cents and the euro at 20-rand-46-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-86-cents and Bitcoin trades at 70-thousand-781-dollars-51-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-171-dollars-50-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 86-dollars a barrel.
