# The ActionSA leader says Ramaphosa chooses the ruling party above South Africans
# Rugby: The Blitzboks get off to a bad start in Los Angeles
# And, Cape Town is recording the living heritage of Bo-Kaap at Storytelling Day
# ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba says instead of firing former Transport minister Dipuo Peters for her role in hiding Prasa corruption of 14-billion-rand, president Cyril Ramaphosa again chose the unity of the ruling party over the interest of South Africans. Ramaphosa suspended Peters as deputy minister of Small Business Development for one month. ActionSA’s James de Villiers asks how it is possible that someone who actively tried to cover up billions in state capture corruption gets away with a slap on the wrist:
# The Freedom Front Plus has serious misgivings about South Africa signing the international treaty on pandemic prevention and preparedness by member countries of the World Health Organisation. The FF Plus’ Philip van Staden says the ANC government has kept it so tightly under wraps that members of Parliament only learnt of it after the public brought it to their attention in May 2022. The report focuses on key populations like those living with HIV/AIDS, sex workers, drug users and the LGBTQIA-plus community. It unveils issues, including privacy violations and alleged denial of antiretrovirals. The report urges a cultural shift in public health facilities to address ill-treatment, including key population-friendly staff for improvement in the healthcare system. It is set to be submitted to the Department of Health for action.
# Rugby: The Springbok Sevens didn’t fulfil their promise of a better performance at the Los Angeles-tournament this morning when they were whitewashed 17-0 by Ireland in their opening game. Conor O’Sullivan scored in the opening minute and Zack Ward scored twice in the first half to deny the Blitzboks. Their task gets tougher as they now need to win their next two games – the next which is against series leaders Argentina this evening. Their final game is against Spain early tomorrow morning.
# And, the City of Cape Town says it is supporting a project to record living heritage in the Bo-Kaap for incorporation today. This is part of the proposed redevelopment of the Strand Street Quarry. The city’s deputy mayor and mayoral committee member for Spatial Planning and Environment, Eddie Andrews, says today, residents will have the opportunity to contribute material by participating in Storytelling Day where oral histories, memories and experiences of the Bo-Kaap are being related and recorded:
