# Five family members die in a crash on the N2 in KZN
# And, Nersa cuts Sasol Gas’s maximum price by six-percent
# ANC Secretary General, Fikile Mbalula, says the G20 Leaders Summit next weekend will be attended by all countries except the United States of America. Mbalula was speaking during the ANC national executive committee meeting in Germiston, Ekurhuleni. He says, although the US has attended and participated in the working groups, it will not be attending the Leaders Summit:
# Five people have died when a Suzuki light motor vehicle and a seven-seater minibus were involved in a head-on collision along the N2 before the Umzumbe River bridge in KwaZulu-Natal last night. The provincial Transport Department’s spokesperson, Ndabezinhle Sibiya says three children between the ages of three and five, and two adults believed to be their parents, have died instantly. Four people were injured:
# The Information Regulator says nearly two-thousand data breaches have been reported since April, marking a 40-percent spike from 2024. Chairperson Pansy Tlakula warned that both government and private organisations must urgently strengthen cybersecurity systems to protect personal data. The regulator has disputed Google and Meta’s refusal to provide certain records under Promotion of Access to Information Act. She insisted that the law applies to global firms operating in South Africa:
# Energy regulator, Nersa, has approved a six-percent decrease in Sasol Gas’s maximum price for the third quarter of the 2025/2026 financial year. The new maximum price is 85-rand-ten-cents per gigajoule, down from 90-rand-57-cents. The decrease follows verified cost data, including new supplies from Mozambique. The regulator’s Charles Hlebela says the maximum price does not necessarily reflect the actual price customers pay, which is expected to be lower.
# The US justice department has confirmed it will investigate paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein’s alleged links to major banks and several prominent Democrats, including former President Bill Clinton. This follows after US President Donald Trump asked Attorney General Pam Bondi and the FBI to look into the alleged links. Bondi said the department “will pursue this with urgency and integrity”. Trump’s request came days after thousands of Epstein’s emails were released by the US Congress, which include mentions of the US president. Democrats have accused Trump of trying to deflect from questions about his relationship with Epstein.
# And tennis: Jannik Sinner stayed on course to defend his ATP Finals title after seeing off Ben Shelton and completing a perfect group stage, while Felix Auger-Aliassime claimed the last semifinal spot by beating Alexander Zverev. Sinner will face Alex de Minaur in the first semifinal on Saturday afternoon, with Carlos Alcaraz against Auger-Aliassime in the other semifinal. The world’s two top players have been unbeaten in die tournament and are on course for yet another showdown. Alcaraz has already secured the top spot in the men’s rankings at the end of the 2025 campaign.
