# AfriForum delivers its Malema dossier to senior Trump administration officials
# And the 85-year-old Peter Mutharika is re-elected as Malawi’s president
# The ANC Youth League says president Cyril Ramaphosa’s address to the 80th United Nations General Assembly resonated with its position of advancing the struggle for a just, equitable, and people-centred world. In his speech on Tuesday, the president called for reform of the UN Security Council and accountability for violations of international law. ANCYL national spokesperson, Zama Khanyase, says they commend Ramaphosa for reaffirming South Africa’s historic commitment to anti-imperialism and the transformation of global governance institutions:
# AfriForum says it has handed its dossier on EFF leader Julius Malema to senior officials within US president Donald Trump’s administration. The civil rights organisation visited the White House on Wednesday as part of a follow-up liaison visit to the United States, alongside Solidarity. AfriForum’s Ernst van Zyl says bringing Malema’s extremism to the attention of the Trump administration is one part of a larger international campaign to ensure he faces consequences for his incitement of violence:
# The National Union of Mineworkers says it strongly condemns the recent and alarming actions by Radel management in Randburg, Johannesburg. The company distributes and manufactures a wide range of products, with a particular focus on serving the heavy-duty vehicle industry. NUM says last week, a manager followed employees to the restroom to monitor the time they spent inside. It says the company has installed surveillance cameras in sensitive areas like changing rooms and kitchens used primarily by black employees. NUM is calling for an investigation into Radel.
# Malawi’s former president, Peter Mutharika, has won the elections, taking over a country whose economy is in crisis, with high living costs, a shortage of foreign currency, and corruption on a grand scale. The 85-year-old got 56.8-percent of the vote compared with 33-percent for president Lazarus Chakwera. Mutharika, a former professor of law, served as president from 2014 to 2020. Chakwera conceded defeat and said he was committed to a peaceful transfer of power. The swearing-in ceremony must be organised within 30 days.
# Golf: Two-time major winner Collin Morikawa has dismissed the idea that Team USA receiving payment might mean they have less desire than Team Europe to win the Ryder Cup. Critics have questioned the PGA of America’s decision to pay the US team members for their participation in the Ryder Cup, which gets underway at Bethpage Black in New York on Friday. Morikawa says the payment isn’t about personal gain:
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-31-cents and the euro at 20-rand-35-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-31-cents, and Bitcoin trades at 111-thousand-908-dollars. Gold sells at three-thousand-738-dollars-66-cents a fine ounce, and Brent crude oil is quoted at 68-dollars-17-cents a barrel.
