# President Cyril Ramaphosa called for significant reforms to the United Nations, particularly the Security Council, to reflect a more equitable and representative global order. Addressing the United Nations General Assembly last night, he also strongly condemned Israel’s actions in Gaza, labeling them “genocide,” and urged the international community to enforce international law without prejudice. Ramaphosa emphasized the urgent need for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict:
# The National Prosecuting Authority’s Asset Forfeiture Unit has secured a 144-million-rand forfeiture order from the High Court in Pretoria to recover land stolen from the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform. The order follows a Special Investigating Unit probe with the Hawks. The NPA’s Lumka Mahanjana says several properties, including the 130-million-rand Randjesfontein farm, as well as land in Hurlingham and Hyde Park, were fraudulently transferred into private ownership:
# A factory producing Indian infantry combat vehicles was inaugurated in Morocco, in a move underscoring the South Asian giant’s widening defence footprint. The inauguration, attended by Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, follows an investment agreement signed between New Delhi and Rabat in September 2024. The facility is expected to produce up to 100 vehicles annually, with first deliveries in about 18 months. It is projected to generate 90 direct jobs and 250 indirect jobs, with output set to expand over time.
# US president Donald Trump says he played a key role in halting seven wars, including conflicts involving the DRC and Rwanda’s M23 rebels, without United Nations assistance. Addressing delegates, Trump accused the UN of failing to act on global conflicts. Trump also highlighted Iran, claiming US bombers destroyed Iran’s nuclear facility, forcing an end to a 12-day war with Israel. He further urged Hamas to release hostages and accept peace:
# Golf: United States captain Keegan Bradley admits he has had a few wistful thoughts this week about what might have been had he picked himself to be a playing captain at this weekend’s Ryder Cup. The 39-year-old American, ranked 13th in the world, pondered calling his name last month with one of his six captain’s picks for the US squad facing Europe. Bradley could have been the first playing captain in the Ryder Cup since Arnold Palmer in 1963. However, he decided the team was better served with his focus on captain’s duties.
# Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Gayton McKenzie has officially inaugurated St Peter’s Rainbow Village in South End, Gqeberha, Eastern Cape, as a national heritage site. The site, formerly St Peter’s Anglican Church, was restored by the Mandela Bay Development Agency to honor the community displaced during the 1960s forced removals. The minister emphasised its significance as a symbol of resilience and collective memory:
