# The National Freedom Party has welcomed the suspension of Deputy National Police Commissioner for Crime Detection, Shadrack Sibiya. The suspension is believed to be linked to allegations that Sibiya interfered with the work of the KwaZulu-Natal political killings task team and tried to have the unit disbanded. Sibiya had been on leave for the past two months, pending investigations into serious allegations that KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi made in July. The NFP’s Zithembe Mkhwanazi says Sibiya must be held accountable:
# The Department of Small Business Development is encouraging entrepreneurs and small business owners to submit their applications for the Business Infrastructure Support Programme before the deadline on 30 September. The programme aims to enhance the growth and sustainability of MSMEs by providing critical infrastructure, equipment, technology, and energy solutions, especially in underserved areas. The department says the programme supports the construction of MSME hubs, provision of equipment, tools, machinery, and renewable energy, and offers business development services to improve efficiency and competitiveness.
# Tshwane mayor Nasiphi Moya has called on G20 leaders to prioritise the economic opportunities and financing of climate action and urban resilience. A recent study by the Cities Climate Finance Leadership Alliance on the state of cities’ climate finance found that African cities receive less than four-percent of the funding they require. Moya says empowering cities is the most direct route to achieving national climate goals:
# Motorsport: Ducati’s Marc Marquez is closer to clinching his seventh MotoGP title, after winning the San Marino Grand Prix in Italy. The Spaniard overtook Aprilia rider Marco Bezzecchi on lap 12 and never looked back. Bezzecchi finished second with Gresini Racing’s Alex Marquez in third. South Africa’s Brad Binder finished tenth. With a 182-point lead, Marquez can win the title at the Japanese Grand Prix later this month, but he says he is taking it one race at a time:
