# The White House says Trump warned Qatar of Israel’s strike in Doha
# And cricket: The Dolphins host the first edition of the local T10 competition
# The EFF has introduced the Electoral Amendment Bill as a private member’s bill to Parliament, saying it’s time to end the systematic exclusion of millions of citizens from the democratic process. The private member’s bill seeks to amend the Electoral Act of 1998 to provide for the automatic registration of all South African citizens on the national voters’ roll upon reaching the age of 16. The EFF’s Thembi Msane says more than 13.5-million eligible citizens remain excluded from the voters’ roll:
# Parliament’s Standing Committee on Appropriations is calling for urgent steps and political will to ensure adequate funding for the Border Management Authority. According to the Department of Home Affairs, the BMA’s approved organisational structure provides for 11-thousand-115 personnel. However, only two-thousand-566 positions have been filled. Currently, the BMA is underfunded by more than 2.2-billion-rand. Committee chairperson, Mmusi Maimane, says addressing this funding shortfall is vital not only for national security but also to safeguard South Africa against illicit trade and tax evasion.
# SECTION27, representing Cancer Alliance, has expressed disappointment at the Gauteng Department of Health’s appeal to the recent judgment in the case for radiation oncology treatment. In August, the Gauteng High Court declared the department’s failure to provide radiation oncology services to cancer patients unconstitutional and ordered it to address the backlog list. Cancer Alliance’s Salome Meyer says the appeal is yet another attempt by the department to delay providing treatment despite receiving 784-million-rand to address the backlog:
# White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt says president Donald Trump was notified by the US military of Israel’s strike on Hamas in Doha, and ordered Qatar to be warned before the attack. Israel carried out an unprecedented attack against Hamas leadership in Qatar on Tuesday, which has been a key mediator in Gaza ceasefire talks. The strike killed five Hamas members. Leavitt says Trump has assured the Qatari government that such a thing will not happen again on their soil:
# Cricket: The Dolphins will host the first edition of the new local T10 Cup in Durban this weekend. They will compete with the Lions, the Titans and Western Province. The Lions and Province will do battle on Friday, while the hosts and the Titans will face off. On Saturday, all four teams will play two matches each to determine who goes through to Sunday’s final and the third-place play-off. CEO of KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Heinrich Strydom says this is the perfect way to prepare for the new season.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-50-cents and the euro at 20-rand-50-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-69-cents and Bitcoin trades at 111-thousand-620-dollars. Gold sells at three-thousand-640-dollars-57-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 66-dollars-80-cents a barrel.
