# And France is in a political crisis as its prime minister is ousted in a no-confidence vote
# Parliament’s portfolio committee on Communications and Digital Technologies has expressed concern about the 12.3-percent decline in employment across telecommunications, broadcasting, and postal sectors. The Parliament Economic Cluster briefed the media on Monday. Committee chairperson, Khusela Sangoni Diko, says this trend of declining employment reflects broader economic pressures but also highlights structural weaknesses in the sector. She adds that they expect the government to lead boldly, decisively, and innovatively to unlock the full potential of the digital economy:
# The South African Federation of Trade Unions has condemned the Department of Employment and Labour’s decision to gazette the Code of Good Practice on Dismissal. The new Dismissal Code provides guidance to employers, employees and others on the legal obligations relating to termination of employment in terms of the Labour Relations Act. Saftu’s spokesperson, Asive Dyani, says the gazetting of this legislation was done without Parliamentary oversight and in defiance of submissions made by over 30 organisations:
# The City of Tshwane says its all systems go for its inaugural Tshwane Investment Summit tomorrow. The event, themed “Tshwane Rising,” aims to attract significant investment and unlock the metro’s vast economic potential. Mayoral committee member for Economic Development and Spatial Planning, Sarah Mabotsa, says they are targeting to secure five-billion-rand in investments at the landmark event. She adds that they plan to grow the local economy at an average of 3.9-percent by 2029:
# French lawmakers have voted to oust prime minister François Bayrou in a confidence vote, plunging the country into a new political crisis. A total of 364 members of Parliament voted against him and 194 voted for him. This comes after he called the vote in a bid to push through an unpopular savings plan that included scrapping two public holidays and freezing government spending. The 74-year-old is set to hand his resignation to president Emmanuel Macron today, who must now appoint a fifth prime minister in less than two-years.
# Soccer: Manchester City and the Premier League have settled their dispute over the rules governing Associated Party Transactions. The club had mounted a legal challenge claiming that the amended APT rules were unlawful. The rules are designed to prevent clubs from securing sponsorship deals from associated parties that are not deemed to be of fair market value. This settlement is unrelated to the hearing into the 115 charges issued against the Abu Dhabi-owned club by the Premier League for alleged breach of financial regulations.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-47-cents and the euro at 20-rand-57-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-71-cents and Bitcoin trades at 111-thousand-984-dollars. Gold sells at three-thousand-651-dollars-94-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 66-dollars-27-cents a barrel.
