Good morning. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# The DA is committed to addressing the cause of illegal land grabs
# Rassie Erasmus is disappointed in the Boks’ performance at Eden Park
# And tennis: Sabalenka defeats Anisimova to retain the US Open crown
# The DA says it is committed to addressing the cause of illegal land grabs, not just the symptoms. The party says it has proposed amendments to the Prevention of Illegal Eviction Act in Parliament that will criminalise incitement and organisation of land grabs. The DA’s Luyolo Mphithi says the Bill provides a legitimate pathway to protect the vulnerable, uphold property rights, and free municipalities from the endless cycle of invasions:
# Deputy president Paul Mashatile says the late Ambassador Mninwa Johannes Mahlangu was instrumental in the struggle for liberation and the development and nurturing of South Africa’s democracy. Mashatile delivered a eulogy during the Special Official Funeral for Mahlangu in Middelburg, Mpumalanga. Mahlangu died at the age of 72 on August 24, 2025, in a hospital after a short illness. Mashatile says Mahlangu has participated in drafting the nation’s democratic Constitution and subsequently served in the inaugural Parliament:
# The DA in the Western Cape has welcomed the provincial Department of Health and Wellness’s newly adopted People’s Strategy to attract and retain clinical staff. The party says Health facilities cannot function without adequate personnel, and access to quality healthcare is a fundamental constitutional right. The DA’s Memory Booysen says the strategy aims to strengthen recruitment by recognising healthcare as a frontline service:
# Sports news:
# Rugby: Head coach Rassie Erasmus was left frustrated by the Springboks’ errors in the 24-17 defeat to the All Blacks in their Rugby Championship match at Eden Park yesterday. South Africa quickly went into a 14-0 deficit after early tries from Emoni Narawa and Will Jordan. The Boks were chasing the game after that and were unable to overcome that deficit before half-time, with Handre Pollard adding only a penalty during the first 40 minutes. Erasmus admits that after the easy scores by the All Blacks, it was difficult for the Boks to come back:
# Tennis: World number one Aryna Sabalenka from Belarus overpowered Amanda Anisimova to defend her US Open crown yesterday, defeating her American rival in straight sets to clinch the fourth Grand Slam title of her career. Sabalenka ruthlessly attacked Anisimova’s shaky service game to complete a two-set victory on Arthur Ashe Stadium, which cements her status at the pinnacle of women’s tennis. In the men’s competition, reigning champion Jannik Sinner expects another “special” occasion today when he plays Carlos Alcaraz after the Italian reached his fifth successive Grand Slam final on Friday.
# And motorsport: Max Verstappen of the Red Bull team secured a stunning pole position for the Italian Grand Prix, setting a new lap record at Monza. He edged out the McLaren duo, with Lando Norris qualifying second and championship leader Oscar Piastri in third. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc will start fourth, much to the delight of the home crowd. Lewis Hamilton qualified fifth, but a prior grid penalty means he will start Sunday’s race in 10th.
