In this bulletin:
# Al Jama-ah welcomes the support for South Africa’s case against Israel
# The UDM adds its voice to calls for Blade Nzimande to resignation
# And, the EFF in Gauteng condemns the dismissal of Gold One Mine workers
# The Al Jama-ah Party has welcomed the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation’s support for South Africa’s case at the International Justice Court against Israel. The court is scheduled to commence the hearing of the case in which South Africa accuses Israel of committing genocide in Gaza starting tomorrow. Al Jama-ah leader, Ganief Hendricks, says the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation’s support should serve as a precedent to other governments that have not yet pledged their support for this legal effort:
# The UDM has added its voice to calls for the resignation of Higher Education, Science and Innovation minister Blade Nzimande following corruption allegations. Nzimande denied accusations from the Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse, who released recordings suggesting he and NSFAS chairperson Ernest Khoza sought kickbacks. The non-profit alleges a one-million-rand payment to Nzimande’s South African Communist Party. UDM leader Bantu Holomisa says he is not surprised by Nzimande’s denial of the allegations:
# The EFF in Gauteng says it strongly condemns the hasty, unwarranted, and unjustified dismissal of over 400 workers by Gold One Mine. The dismissal of the workers follows their involvement in the underground sit-ins at the mine’s operations in Springs, Ekurhuleni, late last year. The EFF says Gold One Mine, like many other mining companies, continues to display arrogance because it enjoys excessive authority over workers and is almost always unregulated by the government.
# Ecuador’s president Daniel Noboa has declared an internal armed conflict, amid a series of coordinated attacks across the South American country. This comes after masked gunmen stormed the studio of the TC Television network in Ecuador’s largest city, Guayaquil, during a live broadcast. The assailants were seen forcing the staff onto the floor of the studio as shots and yelling were heard in the background. Police commander César Zapata says 13 people have been arrested, adding that this act should be considered as a terrorist act.
# Soccer: Middlesbrough defeated Chelsea one-nil in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semifinal at the Riverside Stadium. Hayden Hackney’s first-half goal was enough to secure victory for the Championship side, who now have a slender advantage heading into the second leg at Stamford Bridge on the 23rd of this month. Middlesbrough manager, Michael Carrick, says the victory over a top side like Chelsea is very special for the club:
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-66-cents and the euro at 20-rand-41-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-71-cents and Bitcoin trades at 46-thousand-123-dollars-66-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-28-dollars-91-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 77-dollars-85-cents a barrel.
