# National Assembly Speaker, Thoko Didiza, says she is still considering the MK Party’s motion of no confidence against president Cyril Ramaphosa. The motion was tabled last month in the wake of allegations made by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi against Police minister Senzo Mchunu. This happened as the party had approached the Constitutional Court to revoke the appointment of professor Firoz Cachalia as acting police minister. The MK Party, which lost its challenge in the apex court, wants a secret ballot when the motion is voted for.
# Minister of Agriculture John Steenhuisen says efforts to contain and combat the foot-and-mouth disease in the country are being hindered by people illegally transporting cattle. The minister visited Rysmierbult outside Ventersdorp in the North West yesterday, to oversee a Cattle Vaccination Campaign aimed at combating the spread of the disease. There are about 274 unresolved outbreaks of the disease across five provinces, with KwaZulu-Natal being the epicentre. Steenhuisen says combating the disease requires a collective effort:
# The City of Johannesburg says it has given more than 2.7-billion-rand worth of property rebates to property owners during the 2024/2025 financial year. The metro’s rebates provide relief to thousands of households, pensioners, indigents, the education sector and high-density residential developments, amongst others. The metro’s spokesperson, Nkosana Lekotjolo, says that through various rebates, they continue to respond to the financial difficulties facing property owners:
# Soccer: Tottenham Hotspur’s executive chairman Daniel Levy has stepped down after nearly 25 years in the role. The 63-year-old, who is the Premier League’s longest-serving chairman, purchased a stake in Spurs from Alan Sugar in December 2000. During his tenure, Spurs won the League Cup and, most recently, the Europa League in May this year, to end the club’s 17-year wait for a trophy. Levy says he is incredibly proud of the work the executive team has done in building the club into a global heavyweight.
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-72-cents and the euro at 20-rand-68-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-84-cents and Bitcoin trades at 111-thousand-264-dollars. Gold sells at three-thousand-558-dollars-12-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 66-dollars-72-cents a barrel.
# And finally, the Department of Health has confirmed that minister of Health, Aaron Motsoaledi, has undergone a successful eye operation at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital’s St John Eye Clinic in Johannesburg. An eye problem has plagued the minister for some time, which has required an operation. The department’s spokesperson, Foster Mohale, says the clinic is a government facility that provides treatment for various eye conditions, including retinal issues, glaucoma and corneal problems:
