# The GOOD Party slams the DA’s National Dialogue exit as political theatre
# ATM tables bold constitutional changes, proposes renaming SA to Azania
# And motorsport: Lando Norris claims pole position at the Austrian Grand Prix
# The GOOD Party has criticised the DA’s withdrawal from the National Dialogue, calling it political theatre driven by party interests. Secretary-General, Brett Herron, says the DA’s move undermines efforts to address South Africa’s real challenges. Herron adds that dialogue, not walkouts, is needed for progress. He accuses the DA of hypocrisy and media-driven posturing, urging GNU partners to stay focused on inclusive governance, transparency, and delivering solutions for South Africans:
The DA meanwhile said it will soon announce a replacement for former Trade deputy minister Andrew Whitfield. President Cyril Ramaphosa fired Whitfield for violating executive rules by traveling to the United States without presidential permission. Ramaphosa says the regulations were clearly outlined during the 7th administration’s induction. Although the DA is outraged by the decision, party leader John Steenhuisen confirms a new appointee will be revealed soon:
# The African Transformation Movement has submitted sweeping constitutional amendment proposals, led by Party Parliamentary leader Vuyo Zungula. Key changes include renaming South Africa to the Republic of Azania, reintroducing the death penalty, and banning dual citizenship. The proposal also demands land reform dating back to 1652, nationalisation of resources, and decolonisation of education. ATM spokesperson Zama Ntshona says the changes aim to restore justice, promote unity, and protect national sovereignty:
# Correctional Services national commissioner, Makgothi Thobakgale, has cautioned corrupt prison officials from aiding prisoners with contraband and electronics. This comes as Thobakgale led an unannounced search at Matatshe Correctional Center in Thohotandoe, Limpopo on Friday night. The operation, targeting the remand centres in the Limpopo, Mpumalanga, and North West Region, aims to curb smuggling and illegal activities inside prisons. He says these surprise raids are crucial for safety and discipline:
# Large crowds of mourners dressed in black lined streets in Iran’s capital Tehran as the country held a funeral yesterday for top military commanders, nuclear scientists and civilians killed during Israeli attacks on Iran. At least 16 scientists and 10 senior commanders were among those mourned at the funeral, including armed forces chief Major General Mohammad Bagheri, Revolutionary Guards commander General Hossein Salami, and Guards Aerospace Force chief General Amir Ali Hajizadeh. State TV said the funeral was held for a total of 60 people killed in the war, including four women and four children.
# And motorsport: Lando Norris of McLaren claimed pole position for today’s Austrian Grand Prix ahead of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, leading by 0.521 seconds in the qualifying rounds yesterday. Norris’ teammate, the championship leader, Oscar Piastri, was a further 0.062 seconds behind. Lewis Hamilton put the second Ferrari fourth, 0.090 secs slower than his teammate. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen could manage only seventh place. George Russell for Mercedes and Liam Lawson for Racing Bulls claimed the fifth and sixth positions respectively.
