# Deputy President Paul Mashatile says Finance minister Enoch Godongwana will have the final say on the budget for the upcoming National Dialogue. The first National Convention to enable an all-inclusive process will be convened on 15 August to set the agenda for the National Dialogue. The dialogue’s preparatory committee has projected the cost to exceed 700-million-rand. Mashatile says minister Godongwana will assess all expenses related to the dialogue:
# Twelve passengers were killed when a truck and a bus collided head-on on the R34 Road near Vryheid in KwaZulu-Natal last night. Both drivers of the bus and the truck survived the crash and are in the hospital. Provincial Transport and Human Settlements spokesperson, Ndabezinhle Sibiya, says they are establishing facts around reports that the bus was transporting supporters of a political party:
# Minister of Human Settlements, Thembi Simelane, will from today embark on a three-day visit to the Eastern Cape following floods that claimed the lives of 90 people. The minister will meet with the provincial and municipal leadership to deliberate on the necessary response, required interventions, and work that has been done to assist flood victims. The ministry’s spokesperson, Tsekiso Machike, says nearly three-thousand households have been affected:
# US president Donald Trump is returning to Washington a day early from the Group of 7 summit in Canada to monitor developments in the Middle East. This comes as at least 224 people have been killed by Israeli strikes since Friday, while 24 have been killed in retaliatory strikes in Israel. The schedule change will cancel Trump’s planned bilateral meetings with Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Mexican president Claudia Sheinbaum. Trump has reportedly directed his team to attempt a meeting with Iranian officials as quickly as possible.
# Soccer: Banyana Banyana forward Jermaine Seoposenwe will retire from international football after next month’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. The 31-year-old is one of ten players who have earned over 100 caps for Banyana in a career spanning 15 years, having made her senior debut in 2010. She has played at two World Cups and was also a key player in South Africa’s WAFCON triumph back in 2022. Seoposenwe says it has been a privilege and an honour to represent the country.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-81-cents and the euro at 20-rand-60-cents. One British pound costs 24-rand-19-cents and Bitcoin trades at 107-thousand-527-dollars. Gold sells at three-thousand-389-dollars-13-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 72-dollars-62-cents a barrel.
