# And, Rugby: Boeta Chamberlain’s miss seals a dramatic Lions win
# The EFF leader, Julius Malema is calling on minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Blade Nzimande to resign following the allegations of a money-criminal syndicate linked to the National Student Financial Aid Scheme. Malema says Nzimande has been anti-student ever since he was placed in that department for factional reasons, and accuses him of having established it as his wallet which he uses to practise patronage and enrich himself:
# Limpopo MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Florence Radzilani says traffic officers will be deployed on the provincial roads today. Busy traffic conditions are expected to increase on the N1 between Limpopo and Gauteng. Radzilani is calling on road users to obey traffic rules and be cautious of their speed and pedestrians on the road:
# The Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency is ready to welcome visitors who will be attending the ANC’s 112th Anniversary celebration event at Mbombela stadium next week, on Saturday. The political event is expected to attract more than 46-thousand people, who will be coming from various provinces and neighbouring countries. The MTPA spokesperson, Simphiwe Shungube says the event will bring economic stimulation and create more job opportunities for the people of Mpumalanga especially in the hospitality, safety and security sector:
# Bangladesh began voting this morning in an election guaranteed to give Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina her fifth term in office, after a boycott by opposition parties whose ranks have been decimated by mass arrests. The opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and other parties staged months of protests last year demanding Hasina step down ahead of the vote. Around 25-thousand opposition cadres including the BNP’s entire local leadership were arrested in the ensuing crackdown, the party says. The government puts the figure at 11-thousand. Polls will stay open until 5 pm with results expected after midnight.
# And, finally, Rugby: Boeta Chamberlain missed a last-second penalty that would have given the Sharks a dramatic home United Rugby Championship victory over the Lions, but instead their nightmare season continues for another week with a narrow 18-20 loss. The Lions scored a late try to give the visitors a 20-18 lead with 90 seconds left on the clock. The focus now shifts to Europe, where the Sharks need a win against French side Oyonnax to stay in the Challenge Cup. The Lions, with two wins out of two, face a tough trip to Montpellier in a late game next Saturday night.
