# ANC calls for provincial funeral for Mandela’s former bodyguard André Lincoln
# And, Gauteng’s Health Department launches organ donation awareness campaign
# Deputy president Paul Mashatile says urgent reform is needed to build a capable, ethical, and professional state. Speaking on strengthening the political-administrative interface in Pretoria, he stressed that instability between political and administrative leaders hinders progress. Mashatile called for depoliticisation of public service, consistent leadership, and support for businesses. He announced the formation of war rooms targeting clean governance, economic growth, and hunger eradication to drive people-first transformation:
# The ANC in the Western Cape has urged the provincial government to grant former president Nelson Mandela’s bodyguard André Lincoln an official provincial funeral. Lincoln, a former uMkhonto weSizwe intelligence officer, died at home yesterday morning with the cause of death unknown. He headed the Anti-Gang Unit in the Western Cape. Spokesperson Khalid Sayed says Lincoln’s anti-apartheid efforts, leadership against corruption, and moral integrity deserve high honour. The ANC Legislature Caucus will formally request premier Alan Winde’s support.
# AfriForum has called on Parliament to avoid contempt of the Constitutional Court by adhering to deadlines for fixing unconstitutional laws. This follows a two-year extension granted for adopting the Traditional and Khoi-San Leadership Act. AfriForum’s Barend Uys warns the delay leaves cultural communities in limbo. He says repeated deadline extensions show poor commitment to constitutional democracy and disregard for indigenous and cultural rights:
# The Department of Health is launching an organ donation awareness campaign today in Boksburg, Gauteng, to promote organ and tissue donation in South Africa. The Department’s spokesperson Foster Mohale says with around three-thousand patients on waiting lists, the campaign encourages families to embrace the gift of life as many die while waiting for transplants. He emphasised that the initiative aims to highlighting the life-saving role of organ and tissue donation:
# The Glasgow Warriors outplayed the Stormers by 36-18 at the Scotstoun stadium last night to book a place in the United Rugby Championships semi-finals. Glasgow led 19-14 at halftime. The Scots scored five tries, while the rest of their points came from George Horn’s boot. Seabelo Senatla crossed Glasgow’s line twice, with Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu converting only one and scoring two penalties. This afternoon at 13.30 pm the Bulls take on Edinburgh in their quarter-final clash at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria and the Sharks meet Munster in Durban at 19.30.
