# The IEC has released the fourth-quarter political funding donations disclosure report for the 2024/2025 financial year, with the total value of declared donations amounting to 14.18-million-rand. During the period from January 1st to March 31st 2025, the ANC received 7-million-rand, declaring two donations, four-million-rand from Chancellor House Trust and three-million-rand from Naspers Limited. The DA received 6.2-million-rand and ActionSA one-million-rand. IEC says it expects the donations to increase leading into next year’s local government elections.
# The GOOD Party says the DA has acknowledged that its members of Parliament, who travelled to Israel to whitewash the genocidal actions of the Israeli Defence Force, should be disciplined. At least nine MPs from three political parties visited Israel in April. During a Democracy Unplugged podcast, DA national spokesperson, Karabo Khakhau, stated that the party did not approve of the trip by the MPs. GOOD’s secretary general, Brett Herron, says the DA has admitted the trip violated its protocols:
# ActionSA in Ekurhuleni has welcomed the decision to insource key municipal services, particularly for essential workers like cleaners, security personnel, and waste collectors. The metro will insource essential services, 700 permanent cleaners, and 290 permanent Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department officers, who will look after strategic offices and buildings. ActionSA’s, Phillip Dolo, says reducing reliance on contractors and increasing efficiency and cost-effectiveness is important:
# A US federal appeals court has granted a request by president Donald Trump’s administration to temporarily pause the ruling of the Court of International Trade. On Wednesday, the court ruled that Trump did not have the authority under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act to impose sweeping global tariffs. The appeals court decision allows the tariffs to be used for now while the case is litigated. White House spokesperson, Karoline Leavitt, says Trump did not overstep his power by imposing the tariffs:
# Tennis: Three-time champion Novak Djokovic of Serbia is through to the third round of the French Open, defeating France’s Corentin Moutet, 6-3, 6-2, 7-6. German third seed Alexander Zverev came from a set down to secure a 3-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-3 victory over Dutchman Jesper de Jong. Australian world number nine Alex De Minaur and Czech 19th seed Jakub Mensik have been knocked out. In the women’s draw, Americans Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula, and Madison Keys eased into the third round with straight-set wins.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-84-cents and the euro at 20-rand-24-cents. One British pound costs 24-rand-3-cents and Bitcoin trades at 106-thousand-35-dollars. Gold sells at three-thousand-292-dollars-38-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 62-dollars-95-cents a barrel.
