Good morning. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# Bantu Holomisa wants a joint SA-US investigation into the genocide claims
# Saftu demands the immediate reversal of the requirements to facilitate Starlink
# And Darren Scott has died
# UDM leader Bantu Holomisa is calling for a joint investigative committee between South Africa and the US to probe the origins, intent, and credibility of claims of a white genocide in South Africa. US president Donald Trump has falsely claimed that there is a genocide against the country’s white farmers, which the government has strongly denied. Holomisa told Newzroom Afrika that there is a risk that these claims can be manipulated for political or economic agendas:
# Saftu is demanding the immediate reversal of the decision to drop the 30-percent broad-based black economic empowerment requirement for Elon Musk’s Starlink or any other corporation. This comes as minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, Solly Malatsi, released a proposed policy direction to the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa last Friday, seeking to amend licensing rules under the Electronic Communications Act. Saftu says this could potentially undermine the country’s established regulatory frameworks, including laws governing spectrum licensing.
# The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa will march to KwaZulu-Natal premier Thami Ntuli’s office in Pietermaritzburg today. NUMSA spokesperson Phakamile Hlubi-Majola says the union demands that the provincial government stop awarding tenders to non-compliant security companies. She accuses these firms of defrauding workers by deducting medical and pension contributions without paying them over:
# French president Emmanuel Macron has dismissed a video showing his wife Brigitte pushing him in the face as they prepared to get off a plane in Vietnam. The short video, shot by an Associated Press camera operator, shows the aircraft door opening with Macron appearing in the doorway. Seconds later, his wife’s hand appears to shove him, causing him to step back before regaining his composure. Macron says he and his wife were joking around, as they do quite often. He criticised how the video had been weaponised.
# Cricket: The Punjab Kings defeated the Mumbai Indians by seven-wickets to guarantee a top-two finish in the Indian Premier League before the playoffs. The Mumbai Indians posted 184 for seven in their 20 overs. In reply, Josh Inglis and Priyansh Arya smashed 109 runs off 59 balls for the second wicket as the Punjab Kings reached the target with nine balls to spare. The Punjab Kings will meet either the Royal Challengers Bangalore or the Gujarat Titans in the Qualifier on Thursday.
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-85-cents and the euro at 20-rand-35-cents. One British pound costs 24-rand-23-cents and Bitcoin trades at 108-thousand-951-dollars. Gold sells at three-thousand-340-dollars-11-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 63-dollars-90-cents a barrel.
# And on a sad note: South African veteran radio broadcaster Darren Scott has passed away. He had been battling melanoma, an aggressive kind of skin cancer, for years. Scott has spent more than four decades behind the mic, informing and entertaining South Africans. He has worked at some of the country’s most recognisable radio stations, including Radio Bop, 5FM, Jacaranda, East Coast Radio, and eventually landed at Hot 102.7FM. He marked 40 years in radio last year and was inducted into the Radio Awards Hall of Fame.
