Good morning. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# DA welcomes the draft regulations by minister Malatsi to broaden internet access to all South Africans
# GIWUSA says the South African government protects dictatorships in Africa
# And in rugby, the Pumas get sweet revenge by beating Griquas in the final of the SA Cup
# The DA has welcomed the draft regulations released by Communications and Digital Technologies minister, Solly Malatsi, to introduce new mechanisms to broaden internet access to all South Africans. The party says access to reliable, affordable internet is a key ingredient to economic growth. The DA’s Tsholofelo Bodlani says they joined the Government of National Unity to make a difference in the lives of all South Africans:
Meanwhile the ATM has strongly condemned what it calls the ANC/DA coalition’s latest act of betrayal against the people of South Africa. ATM’s spokesperson, Zama Ntshona says the coalition has sold out the aspirations of black South Africans, to appease billionaire elites:
# The General Industries Workers Union of South Africa says as the continent commemorates Africa Day, the South African government is protecting dictatorships in Africa while pretending to support democracy. Giwusa president, Mametlwe Sebei, says these are in Eswatini, Zimbabwe, Uganda and Egypt, while government is also maintaining ties with Israel while claiming solidarity with Palestine:
# Russia launched a deadly aerial assault on the Ukrainian capital Kyiv using missiles and drones for a second night in a row, as the two sides carried out an exchange of hundreds of prisoners of war. CNN reports three people were killed in attacks on the Ukrainian capital region overnight into Sunday, a day after officials reported at least 13 dead across Ukraine after Russian attacks. The onslaught on the capital comes as international pressure mounts on Russian president Vladimir Putin to accept a ceasefire proposal and end his more than three-year war.
# Rugby: The Pumas captured their first SA Cup title when they defeated Griquas in Saturday’s final at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit. They dominated from the beginning after Griquas’ front-row forward Cebo Dlamini, received a 20-minute red card in the seventh minute after a head-on-head tackle. The home team scored barely a minute later, leaving Griquas on the backfoot for the rest of the match. They led 19-7 at halftime and finished the match with a convincing 39-14 victory. This was the second year of the tournament which Griquas won last year.
# And finally Motorsport: Lando Norris put McLaren on pole position for the Monaco Grand Prix with Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc next to him on the front row. Norris’s championship-leading teammate and rival Oscar Piastri qualified third. Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton was fourth fastest after crashing in final practice, but the seven-times world champion was then handed a three-place penalty for impeding Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, who will now start fourth. Overtaking in Monaco is difficult, and pole position is a huge advantage. The race has been won only ten times since 1950 by a driver starting lower than third.
