# And children aged 14 or younger are now less than 12-percent of Japan’s population
# The Constitutional Court will today hand down its judgment in the DA’s application to safeguard and protect the citizenship of all South African citizens. The party wants an order of confirmation of the Supreme Court of Appeal ruling that a section of the Citizenship Act of 1995 is unconstitutional and invalid. This is to the extent that it leads to citizens losing their citizenship upon voluntary and formal acquisition of the citizenship of another country unless they obtain prior permission from the Home Affairs minister.
# Government says human trafficking is a serious crime that violates fundamental human rights. Last month, authorities rescued 23 young South Africans from forced labour in Myanmar after being recruited for bogus jobs promising a monthly salary of 15-thousand-rand. In February, 26 Ethiopians were rescued from a suspected human trafficking ring in Johannesburg. Government Communication Information System’s spokesperson, Nokululeko Mtshali, says traffickers often target vulnerable individuals, including children, migrants, and those in difficult economic situations:
# The GOOD Party in the Western Cape is calling for justice following the killing of DA councillor Xolile Kalipa. The 54-year-old was gunned down in Kayamandi, Stellenbosch, on Sunday evening. No arrests have been made yet. GOOD’s Marius van Stade says this senseless act of violence must be condemned. He adds that justice must be served, and those responsible are held accountable without delay:
# Japan’s estimated child population has shrunk for the 44th straight year to a record low. Children make up just 11.1-percent of Japan’s total population, which stood at 123.4-million last year. The demographic crisis has become one of Japan’s most pressing issues, with its birth rate continually declining. Japan is a “super-aged” nation, meaning more than 20-percent of its population is older than 65. The country’s total population by 2065 is expected to have dropped to about 88-million.
# Cricket: Sunrisers Hyderabad’s hopes of reaching the Indian Premier League play-offs are over after rain washed out their match against the Delhi Capitals. The Capitals, who were asked to bat first, posted 133 for seven in their 20 overs. However, rain prevented the teams from returning to the field after the innings break. Both teams got one point each. The Capitals remain in fifth place, however, they have closed the gap to fourth-placed Gujarat Titans, whom they now trail by a single point.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-25-cents and the euro at 20-rand-66-cents. One British pound costs 24-rand-27-cents and Bitcoin trades at 94-thousand-529-dollars. Gold sells at three-thousand-359-dollars-15-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 61-dollars-5-cents a barrel.
