In this bulletin:
# The SANDF says general Rudzani Maphwanya did not disregard the minister’s orders
# GIWUSA says nationalisation of the banking cartel can stop rand manipulation
# And cricket: Australia wins the third ODI against the Proteas and avoids a series whitewash
# The South African National Defence Force has rejected allegations that Chief General Rudzani Maphwanya is defiant towards the minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Angie Motshekga. According to the City Press, Maphwanya vowed to continue defying the minister’s order to reinstate Colonel Eugene Motati. He was unlawfully dismissed in September 2019, on untested sexual harassment allegations by an SABC journalist. The minister’s order was in line with the Military Ombudsman’s findings. SANDF’s spokesperson, Prince Tshabalala, says the allegations are misleading:
# The General Industries Workers Union of South Africa says the Competition Commission’s legal case against 14 local and international banks is a stark exposure of how finance capital operates as a parasite. The case emanates from the flagging of 28 banks for allegedly being involved in collusion to manipulate the rand-dollar exchange between 2007 and 2013. GIWUSA president, Mametlwe Sebei, says this is a direct and brutal class war waged by finance capital against the working class:
# The Independent Financial Advisors Forum is calling on the City of Tshwane to withdraw its irregular medical aid brokerage tender. The metro is seeking an independent brokerage to provide comprehensive medical aid brokerage services for three years. This tender aims to enhance healthcare access and management for city employees and their dependents. The forum’s spokesperson, Njabulo Majola, says this tender will unfairly exclude existing brokers from servicing their clients within Tshwane’s workforce and pensioner group:
# Cricket: Australia avoided a series whitewash by beating South Africa by a record 276 runs in the third and final ODI in Mackay, Queensland. Travis Head, Cameron Green, and Mitchell Marsh all scored centuries as the hosts posted 431 for two in their allotted 50 overs. In reply, Cooper Connolly claimed his maiden five-wicket haul as the Proteas were dismissed for 155. This was Australia’s biggest win by runs at home in ODIs, and their second-biggest overall in the format. South Africa won the series 2-1.
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-45-cents and the euro at 20-rand-43-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-58-cents and Bitcoin trades at 112-thousand-780-dollars. Gold sells at three-thousand-365-dollars-15-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 67-dollars-33-cents a barrel.
# And finally, well-known academic and journalist, professor Wilhelm Jordaan, passed away over the weekend at the age of 82. He wrote weekly columns for the Beeld for over 30-years and later for its sister publications, Die Burger and Volksblad. Jordaan was the author and co-author of about 15 academic books and 30 psychology articles. One of these books is Sondesemoer, which is a collection of his popular weekly columns that appeared in Beeld. In 2003, he was appointed as an extraordinary professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Pretoria.
