In this bulletin:
# The GOOD Party says Solidarity and AfriForum act in bad faith
# A suspect is arrested in connection with the leaking of the 2024 matric results
# And the Prudential Authority is seeking the provisional liquidation of Ithala
# The GOOD Party says Solidarity and AfriForum’s decision to institute legal proceedings against the promulgation of the Basic Education Laws Amendment, lacks credibility and substance. The groups argue that the Act violates previous agreements and disregards critical recommendations by minister of Basic Education Siviwe Gwarube, particularly on language and admissions policies. GOOD Party’s Secretary-General, Brett Herron, says Solidarity and AfriForum seem adamant about defending some imaginary attack on Afrikaans-speaking children from cultural integration:
# A 21-year-old man has been arrested in Hillcrest, north of Johannesburg, in connection with the alleged selling of the class of 2024 matric results online. This comes after the Department of Basic Education laid criminal charges earlier this week, following a possible breach of the result that was exposed on social media. The information was sold for at least 100-rand per result. Hawks spokesperson, Katlego Mogale, says further investigation into the matric result leakage will continue:
# The South African Reserve Bank’s Prudential Authority has applied to the Pietermaritzburg High Court for the provisional liquidation of the embattled KwaZulu-Natal-owned development agency Ithala. This is after a repayment administrator established that Ithala is technically and legally insolvent. The Prudential Authority believes this action is in the best interests of the approximately 257-thousand depositors, as the appointed liquidator will be able to use insolvency legislation to recover and distribute their funds. Ithala has warned that it could close down, putting 400 jobs at risk.
# The US has imposed sanctions on Sudan’s army chief, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, accusing him of destabilising the country and undermining the goal of a democratic transition. The Treasury Department says that, under al-Burhan’s leadership, the Sudanese Armed Forces has committed lethal attacks on civilians including targeting schools and hospitals. It adds that the army is responsible for the intentional denial of humanitarian access, using food deprivation as a war tactic. The war in Sudan has killed thousands of people and pushed the country into a dire humanitarian crisis.
# Amad Diallo scored three goals in 12-minutes as Manchester United came from behind to beat Southampton three-one at Old Trafford in the Premier League. The Ivorian equalised for the Reds in the 82nd minute before playing a delightful one-two with Christian Eriksen in the 90th minute to put United ahead. Amad then capitalised on Taylor Harwood-Bellis’ defensive mishap to clinch the victory and all three points. Manager Ruben Amorim says Diallo was impressive:
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-79-cents and the euro at 19-rand-34-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-97-cents and Bitcoin trades at 101-thousand-152-dollars. Gold sells at two-thousand-715-dollars-3-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 80-dollars-74-cents a barrel.
