# NEHAWU says it will join millions of South Africans today in commemorating the 30th anniversary of the passing of the former General-Secretary of the South African Communist Party, Joe Slovo. Nehawu’s Lwazi Nkolonzi says the union will always remember his contribution to the struggle for freedom and his dedication to the struggle for socialism:
# The Western Cape police have launched a manhunt for suspects after a man and his daughter were shot dead inside their home in Delft on Friday night. Police spokesperson, Wesley Twigg says according to reports the victims were at home when they heard gunshots on the outside of their house. He says unknown gunmen then entered the house, and shot the male and female before fleeing the scene:
# Social grant beneficiaries can now replace their Gold Cards with Postbank Black Cards. Postbank has provided a list of locations across Northern, Eastern, and Western Cape as well as Gauteng. These include Pick n Pay, Shoprite, and Boxer stores where recipients can collect their new cards with just their ID. While the Gold Cards will continue to work until replaced, Postbank urges beneficiaries to switch to the Black Card. The bank promises to expand its list of stores across other provinces to ensure no one is left behind.
# Soccer: Amad Diallo struck a late equaliser for Manchester United which held Premier League leaders Liverpool to a thrilling 2-2 draw at Anfield on Sunday. United had gone ahead in the 52nd minute when Lisandro Martinez found the net from a tight angle. But Liverpool responded seven minutes later with Cody Gakpo equalised before Mohamed Salah put the hosts ahead from the penalty spot. Liverpool remain in control of the title race with 46 points from 19 games. United moved up a place to 13th with 23 points.
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-75-cents and the euro at 19-rand-34-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-31-cents and Bitcoin trades at 99-thousand-168-dollars-7-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-637-dollars-74-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 76-dollars-32-cents a barrel.
# And finally, a 22-year-old Spanish tourist has died after being attacked by an elephant she was bathing in Thailand. Student Blanca Ojanguren Garcia had been visiting the island of Yao Yai in southwestern Thailand with her boyfriend when the attack took place. A worker at the Koh Yao Elephant Care centre said the couple had been bathing one of the elephants when Garcia passed in front of it and it gored her with its tusk. Experts think the elephant was likely stressed by the pressure of living and interacting with tourists.
