# Cosatu says the arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Court last week, show that no individual or state is above international law. The arrest warrants were issued for Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former Defence minister Yoav Gallant and Hamas military leader Mohammed Diab Ibrahim Al-Masri, for war crimes and crimes against humanity. Cosatu’s, Matthew Parks, says the international community must ensure these arrest warrants are enforced:
# MK Party leader Jacob Zuma has appointed convicted fraudster Joe Ndhlela as the party’s national organiser. In July 2022, Ndhlela, a one-time Premier Soccer League chief executive, was convicted of fraud and contravening the Companies Act related to his time at Transnet. He was sentenced to three years imprisonment. The MK Party says Ndhlela was instrumental in the development of both the national elections strategic framework and the training manual for party agents. Ndhlela’s son, Nhlamulo, is the MK’s spokesperson.
# The Cape Winelands District Municipality’s Fire Services is continuing with active firefighting activities on Mitchell’s Pass outside Ceres. The fire started yesterday afternoon. The municipality’s spokesperson, Jo-Anne Otto, says the fire teams, assisted by the cooler nighttime temperatures, were able to contain the fire running parallel to the road:
# A new CBS poll shows that 59-percent of Americans approve of how president-elect Donald Trump is handling his presidential transition. Trump has picked some controversial figures for his cabinet including vaccine sceptic and conspiracy theorist Robert F Kennedy Junior for Health Secretary, and Fox News host and army veteran Pete Hegseth to be the Defence Secretary. The poll also shows that 54-percent of Republicans compared to four-percent of Democrats are excited about what Trump will do in his second term as president.
# Tennis: World number one Jannik Sinner guided Italy to a second successive Davis Cup title by beating the Netherlands two-nil in Malaga, Spain. Matteo Berrettini defeated Botic van de Zandschulp, 6-4, 6-2, to hand Italy an early advantage. Twenty-three-year-old Sinner then beat Tallon Griekspoor, 7-6, 6-2, to secure the trophy. Italy is the first country to win consecutive Davis Cup titles since the Czech Republic in 2012 and 2013. Sinner says this competition is important to him:
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-5-cents and the euro at 18-rand-91-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-73-cents and Bitcoin trades at 97-thousand-886-dollars. Gold sells at two-thousand-667-dollars-60-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 74-dollars-33-cents a barrel.
