# The Department of Social Development says it has commenced with the de-registration of non-compliant non-profit organisations in a phased approach. As of October this year, the department had 295-thousand-and-52 registered NPOs with over 167-thousand of them non-compliant. The department’s spokesperson, Bathembu Futshane, says they will continue to support NPOs by creating an enabling environment for them to operate effectively and efficiently:
# The South African National Christian Forum is calling on minister in the presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni to withdraw her comments regarding the four-thousand illegal miners underground in Stilfontein, North West. Briefing the media on Wednesday after the cabinet’s regular meeting, Ntshavheni said it was not the government’s job to retrieve criminals. She added that criminals are not to be helped, but are to be prosecuted. The forum’s president, Marothi Mashashane, says the minister’s comments are reckless:
# Rand Water has refuted claims that its water in some parts of the Emfuleni Municipality is contaminated and poisoned. This follows voice notes circulated on social media alleging that the water in the Vaal area had been contaminated. The voice notes advise residents to stop drinking tap water. Rand Water’s spokesperson, Makenosi Maroo, says the water it supplies to residents is free of any contamination and complies with the South African National Standard 241:
# Prosecutors in Paris have requested the courts find far-right National Rally leader Marine Le Pen guilty of embezzlement, sentence her to five years in prison, and a five-year ban from public office. She and 24 other senior party figures are accused of embezzling money from the European parliament with fake jobs between 2004 and 2016. If the court finds Le Pen guilty, she will not be able to run again for president in 2027, even if she appeals against the judgment.
# Soccer: Referees’ body PGMOL says it is aware of a new video that has surfaced of English Premier League referee David Coote. The 42-year-old was suspended on Monday after a video that appeared to show him making derogatory comments about Liverpool and their former manager Jurgen Klopp emerged. In the latest video, Coote is seen snorting a white powder while reportedly working at the European Championship as a match official earlier this year. The PGMOL says it is taking these allegations very seriously.
