# ActionSA has uncovered that two-thousand-901 companies owe the South African Revenue Service 216-billion-rand. One-thousand-156 individuals owe 62-billion-rand, totaling 277-billion-rand. This amount represents nearly 90-percent of SARS’s tax revenue. SARS also faces a 1.3-billion-rand budget cut, hampering its ability to collect owed taxes. ActionSA’s Alan Beesley calls for increased funding to ensure efficient tax recovery and better support for government services:
# Minister of Human Settlements, Mmamoloko Kubayi, will today convene a meeting with mayors, MECs responsible for Human Settlements, and representatives from the South African Local Government Association. The meeting is aimed at discussing progress made towards implementing the 2024/2025 human settlements priorities. The department’s spokesperson, Terrence Manase, says through several grants the department targets delivering over 20-thousand housing units, and 35-thousand serviced stands to empower individuals to build their own homes:
# The DA in Tshwane says it is prepared to go to court to defend the metro’s administration against attacks. This comes after the ANC and the EFF criticised City manager Johann Mettler for reprimanding staff for the way they treated former mayor Cilliers Brink when he left the building after his removal last Thursday. The DA’s, Kwena Moloto, claims the ANC/EFF coalition will replace independent senior managers with their cadres:
# Former US president Donald Trump resorted to crimes in a failed bid to cling to power after losing the 2020 election. This is contained in an unsealed filing from special counsel Jack Smith, that includes evidence compiled in his investigation into Trump’s alleged efforts to subvert the transfer of presidential power after the 2020 election. The 165-page document includes new details of Trump’s relationship with former vice president Mike Pence; and FBI evidence of his phone usage on January 6, 2021, when rioters overtook the US Capitol.
# Soccer: Defending champions Real Madrid fell to their first Champions League defeat since May last year, as Lille recorded a one-nil victory at the Pierre-Mauroy Stadium in France. This is also the first loss for Madrid in 36 matches in all competitions. Goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Mohamed Salah saw Liverpool beat Italian side Bologna two-nil at Anfield. In-form striker Jhon Duran came off the bench to score the winning goal, as Aston Villa defeated Bayern Munich one-nil. Atletico Madrid were thrashed four-nil by Benfica.
