# President Cyril Ramaphosa has called for greater collaboration between South Africa and the United States to boost Africa’s critical minerals sector. Speaking at the Business Council for International Understanding and Prosper Africa Minerals Forum in New York, he urged US companies to invest in advanced mining technologies, supply chain efficiencies, and green energy initiatives. Ramaphosa also warned against repeating colonial-era exploitation of Africa’s resources:
# Former MK party leader Jabulani Khumalo has faced another setback after the Gauteng High Court ruled against him following a series of disputes between Khumalo and the party since his expulsion in April. The court ordered Khumalo’s removal as a signatory from the MK party’s bank account and instructed him to pay legal costs. MK Party spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela welcomed the ruling, claiming Khumalo’s actions were backed by party detractors.
# Commemorating Heritage Day, the Public Servants Association urges all South Africans to promote unity and embrace a shared heritage for a brighter future. Celebrating over 104 years of serving public sector employees, the PSA reaffirms its commitment to integrity and service excellence. The union has made significant strides in improving working conditions and introducing benefits like housing subsidies and medical schemes. The association’s Claude Naiker continues to advocate for the rights and dignity of over 245-thousand public servants:
# Motorsport: Max Verstappen said after the Singapore Grand Prix that his punishment for swearing in a news conference could speed up his exit from Formula 1. The 26-year-old Dutchman was ordered by race stewards to “accomplish some work of public interest”. It was a punishment for swearing while describing his car’s performance during the official pre-event news conference. Verstappen called the penalty silly, saying it deprives him of the ability to be his authentic self. He was backed by title rival Lando Norris and Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton.
# And finally, a Scandinavian Airlines flight to Spain had to divert to Denmark after a mouse climbed out of a woman’s in-flight meal. A Scandinavian Airlines spokesperson said according to protocol and procedures, the plane had to make the diversion for an inspection and fumigation and to transport passengers to another aircraft. A passenger on the flight, Jarle Borrestad, told the BBC people were calm and not stressed at all. However, he did admit that he put his socks over his trousers so the mouse would not crawl up his legs.
