# The Supply Chain Council says the signing into law of the Public Procurement Bill is a milestone for the supply chain industry and the broader economic landscape of South Africa. The legislation is a comprehensive framework designed to streamline procurement processes, making the procurement and supply chain environment more transparent and efficient. The council’s chairperson, Kamogelo Mampane, says a new era of economic transformation and support for local production and services has been ushered in:
Meanwhile, Cosatu has welcomed the signing into law, saying this lays the foundation for a single public procurement system. Public procurement accounts for a significant portion of the government’s expenditure, running into billions of rand a year. Cosatu’s spokesperson, Matthew Parks, says there has not been a single public procurement legislative framework and consequently the situation in many state institutions is open to abuse and corruption:
# The DA in Johannesburg is demanding immediate, clear, honest, and truthful communication from Johannesburg Water. Numerous suburbs will be affected by a water outage today, due to unplanned maintenance on the Commando System. The DA’s, Kyle Jacobs, says Joburg Water’s repeated and unclear statements do little to illuminate the ongoing problems with the Commando System or offer any guidance on how these issues will be resolved:
# Former US president Donald Trump’s campaign has filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission accusing president Joe Biden and vice president Kamala Harris of violating federal campaign finance laws. Biden ended his re-election campaign on Sunday and notified the commission that his committee was changing its name to Harris for President, with Harris as the beneficiary. Trump campaign’s general counsel, David Warrington, says the money raised for Biden’s re-election bid cannot be transferred to Harris’ presidential campaign, arguing that this is a brazen money grab.
# Soccer: European domestic leagues and unions including the Premier League and the Professional Footballers’ Association are suing the world governing body Fifa. It has been accused of failing to consult over recent calendar changes, such as the introduction of a 32-team Club World Cup. The leagues say FIFA has harmed the economic interests of national leagues and the welfare of players. Fifa says the calendar is the only instrument ensuring that international football can continue to survive, co-exist, and prosper alongside domestic and continental club football.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-42-cents and the euro at 19-rand-99-cents.
