Good morning. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# A government of national unity cannot be solely dependable on president Ramaphosa
# The UDM has met with the ANC over the government of national unity
# And the DA in Johannesburg calls for transparency and accountability over load reduction
# Political analyst Mpumelelo Mkhabela says a government of national unity deal that entirely depends on president Cyril Ramaphosa would be unsustainable. The ANC has proposed a government of national unity, after failing to secure a majority in Parliament. In an opinion piece for News24, Mkhabela says the usual factional battles within the ANC will ensue ahead of the elective conference in 2027. He adds that this will further weaken the party and possibly make it difficult for Ramaphosa to hold the government of national unity together.
Meanwhile, the UDM says one of the basic principles that should inform coalition government is that it represents the wishes of the voters. The party has requested Chief Justice Raymond Zondo to call a meeting with all political parties represented in Parliament. This follows the ANC’s announcement of its intention to move forward with a government of national unity. UDM Secretary-General, Yongama Zigede, says they recently met with the ANC where they discussed the formation of a government of national unity:
# The DA in Johannesburg is calling on the mayor, Kabelo Gwamanda, and City Power, to be transparent about what daily maintenance has been done to reduce the number of out-of-service substations. City Power is currently implementing load reduction in high-density areas to relieve the pressure on the grid and prevent the power systems from collapsing. The DA’s, Nicole van Dyk, says residents are now paying 12.72-percent more for power in the metro but are being asked to consume less:
# International Relations and Cooperation minister, Naledi Pandor, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting Palestine in global forums. Addressing the BRICS ministers of Foreign Affairs meeting in Nizhny Novgorod in Russia, the minister reiterated the government’s support for a two-state solution with East Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine. She also called for a comprehensive and permanent ceasefire in the Middle East. Pandor condemned the bombardment of Gaza, highlighting the humanitarian crisis it has caused:
# Motorsport: Red Bull’s Sergio Perez has been hit with a three-place grid penalty for next weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix. The Mexican had spun off on Lap 53 of the Canadian Grand Prix and damaged his rear wing, before managing to limp back to the pit lane and retire the car. The stewards determined that as well as a financial penalty for the team, a sporting penalty for Perez is necessary due to the safety implications of the incident.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-75-cents and the euro at 20-rand-19-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-98-cents and Bitcoin trades at 67-thousand-841-dollars-22-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-203-dollars-3-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 81-dollars-50-cents a barrel.
