# Zionist Federation appalled at démarche issued against Israeli ambassador in SA
# Solidarity warns of growing instability in SA’s AGOA position
# Golf: Homa and Pavon share lead at Sun City
# The South African Zionist Federation is appalled by the démarche issued by the Department of International Relations and Cooperation against the ambassador of Israel to South Africa. The federation says DIRCO remains detached from the free world and the Middle East’s position against the internationally designated terrorist organisation Hamas. Spokesperson Rolene Marks says the department has chosen to side openly with what she calls an antisemitic cult movement that is responsible for the rape, murder and abduction of hundreds of innocent Israeli civilians, including women, children and the elderly:
# Trade union Solidarity warns government’s actions are jeopardising South Africa’s standing in the African Growth and Opportunity Act, a key component of American trade legislation. Despite positive remarks at the recent AGOA forum, reports indicate that United States senator Chris Coons is once again calling for a reconsideration of South Africa’s benefits. The union argues the US Senate is increasingly critical of South Africa’s foreign policy, potentially putting its AGOA participation at risk. Solidarity’s Jaco Kleynhans says South Africa’s vital duty-free exports to the US market, worth 178-billion-rand, are at stake.
# The DA in Tshwane is dedicated to restoring financial stability in the city and it sees the resolution of the illegal strike as a significant step forward. The DA’s Kwena Moloto says the residents of Tshwane simply couldn’t bear the burden of the unions’ demand for 600-million-rand annually, as it would have to come from the budget currently allocated for service delivery. Moloto says the fight to rescue Tshwane is ongoing:
NUM deeply disturbed by security threats at Modder East Gold One Mine – # The National Union of Mineworkers has noted with great concern the re-emerging security threats at Modder East Gold One mine in Springs, Ekurhuleni. The NUM has confirmed that on Wednesday, union officials received a tip-off about a planned hostage situation at the mine when the nightshift workers go underground. It’s officials and office bearers immediately visited the mine. NUM’s Mlulameli Mweli says they are appalled that security threats keep cropping up at the mine.
