# Mmusi Maimane asks South Africans to reject the old and embrace the new
# And, soccer: Man City are stunned by Man United’s FA Cup triumph
# DA leader John Steenhuisen says if the people of the Western Cape want to protect the progress the party has made, they have to vote for the DA on Wednesday. Steenhuisen spoke during a rally in Belhar, Cape Town. Referring to the ANC and what he calls their handlangers in the EFF and the Patriotic Alliance, Steenhuisen said people will not allow those parties and their politics of fear and division to give power back to thieves and looters. He says the Western Cape chooses hope and unity.
In Johannesburg, Build One South Africa leader, Mmusi Maimane, asked all South Africans to reject the old and embrace the new on Wednesday. Maimane was speaking at the party’s Jikizinto final rally at Ellis Park. He says BOSA asks people to take their eyes off the rear-view mirror and the struggles of the present, and look to what the future can be. Maimane admits the uncertainty of change can be a bit scary:
# The Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse says it stands by its report on the leaked National Student Financial Aid Scheme voice recordings released in January. This is despite an investigation which concluded no evidence could be found to substantiate the view that the leaked recordings implicate minister Blade Nzimande and the former scheme chairperson, Ernest Khosa, in corruption. OUTA’s Rudie Heyneke says they don’t agree with the findings of the investigation:
# Chilean authorities have arrested a firefighter and a forestry worker on suspicion of starting the fire which killed at least 137 people in February. One of the men was employed by the National Forestry Corporation, which is responsible for fighting forest fires. The suspects have been remanded in custody, charged with arson resulting in death. Chile’s deadliest fire devastated the Valparaíso region, not far from the capital Santiago.
# And, soccer: Manager Erik ten Hag put speculation over his future aside by leading Manchester United to FA Cup glory with a stunning 2-1 victory over Premier League champions Manchester City at Wembley last night. Reports last week suggested United had decided to part company with the Dutchman regardless of the result of the final. Sky News reports should this be the case, the United players gave him the ultimate send-off as first-half goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo left Pep Guardiola’s side stunned.
