# ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula says the party has not attacked anyone raising concerns about migration. Speaking in Johannesburg as the party finalised its election manifesto, Mbalula said the ANC’s approach is firm on enforcing the law, humane towards people and pan-African in addressing the broader migration challenge. Mbalula says genuine grievances should be met with solutions rather than sustained as political rallying points. He called for wider continental engagements:
# The Johannesburg High Court has sentenced Mozambican national Armindo Pacula to 25 years in prison after he admitted killing media personality Warrick “DJ Warras” Stock in a murder-for-hire plot last December in Johannesburg CBD. Pacula pleaded guilty under a plea agreement, confessing he was paid 25-thousand-rand to carry out the shooting. He also received additional sentences for firearm, ammunition and immigration offences. Meanwhile, proceedings against alleged mastermind Victor Majola continue separately on 17 August 2026 for the conclusion of the pre-trial conference.
The National Prosecuting Authority meanwhile has welcomed the sentence. NPA spokesperson Magaboke Mohlatlole says the sentence reinforces accountability:
# The government warns South Africans to brace for cold, wet and windy weather as a cold front is set to move into the Western and Northern Cape from Sunday. Deputy government spokesperson William Baloyi says the system will bring very cold conditions, rough seas and snowfall over mountainous areas, before spreading eastwards to the Eastern Cape and further inland. Snow will also be possible over higher ground in the Free State, KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga.
Soccer: Defending MTN8 champions Orlando Pirates begin their bid for a record fifth consecutive title against Durban City at Orlando Stadium today. Captain Nkosinathi Sibisi says the Buccaneers are prepared for a difficult encounter. Mamelodi Sundowns host Polokwane City, determined to reclaim domestic silverware, while AmaZulu face Sekhukhune United in Durban. Kaizer Chiefs return to the competition after a two-year absence, taking on Golden Arrows. The MTN8 semi-final draw will be held after Sunday’s quarterfinal.
The Johannesburg Metro Police Department meanwhile has warned motorists of major traffic disruptions around Orlando Stadium in Soweto ahead of the match. Road closures begin at 10am, affecting key routes including the N17, Soweto Highway, Klipspruit Valley Road, Mooki Street and Martha Louw Street. JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla urges fans to arrive early. Kick-off is at 3pm, with gates opening at 11am:
