# Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Mmamoloko Kubayi, says the government is moving to improve access to justice for all through the rationalisation of the courts. Cabinet has approved a master plan to redraw court boundaries and establish new seats of justice where they are most needed. This forms part of efforts to ease mounting caseloads and improve access to justice. Kubayi says there will be a phased-in approach for the implementation of the recommendations of the Rationalisation Committee:
# Eskom says it is accelerating the development of utility-scale renewable energy projects and supporting larger power-user customers in achieving their energy transition goals. This is through its newly formed Eskom Green division, which will have six gigawatts of carbon-free electricity available up to 2030. Some ten-billion-rand has been allocated to Eskom Green over the coming five years. The power utility’s group executive for renewables, Rivoningo Mnisi, says Eskom Green will be subjected to the same grid-access rules as independent power producers also vying for limited grid capacity.
# The ANC Gauteng Provincial Task Team has picked Hassan Mako as its mayoral candidate for the Emfuleni Local Municipality, ahead of the local government elections in November. He is set to replace former mayor Sipho Radebe, who was fired by the party last week. The ANC says Mako brings with him extensive experience as both a community development worker and Ward Councillor for Ward 37. The party adds that it remains committed to fixing local government and building an economy that works for all.
# The UK, Australia, Canada, France and Norway have imposed sanctions and other measures to hold networks involved in financing and enabling settler violence against Palestinian civilians in the Israeli-occupied West Bank. The coordinated sanctions are targeting six firms and one individual. According to the United Nations, one-thousand-835 attacks by settlers against Palestinians were recorded in 2025 alone. UK Foreign Secretary, Yvette Cooper, says for too long, violent settlers have been able to act with near impunity with the support of the Israeli government:
# Tennis: Twenty-three-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams claimed her first professional victory in nearly four years in the women’s doubles at Queen’s in London. The 44-year-old American and Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko defeated the third-seeded duo Nicole Melichar-Martinez and Erin Routliffe, 7-6, 6-2, to make the quarterfinals. The unseeded pair of Williams and Mboko will now face Leylah Fernandez and Laura Siegemund. Williams says she enjoyed being back on the court:
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 16-rand-53-cents and the euro at 19-rand-8-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-12-cents, and Bitcoin trades at 61-thousand-393-dollars.
