# The National Assembly has adopted the portfolio committee on Home Affairs’ report on the One-Stop Border Post Bill. The bill aims to establish a legal framework for creating shared border posts between South Africa and its neighbouring countries. Committee chairperson, Mosa Chabane, says once enacted, the bill is expected to significantly enhance intra-African trade and investment by improving border efficiency, facilitating easier movement of goods and people, and strengthening economic cooperation:
# The South Africa Cabin Crew Association says it will approach the CCMA for a certificate to strike at FlySafair. This follows a move by the airline to lock out cabin crew members over a wage deadlock. SACCA says it was willing to accept the tabled four-year agreement, which includes a 5.7-percent salary increase. However, it says the employer included in the final documents some non-financial benefits that were not bargained for. SACCA is the majority union at FlySafair, accounting for 62-percent of the 800 workers.
# The Gauteng Department of Education has expressed concern about reports of an individual known as “Godfrey”, who is allegedly soliciting bribes from parents in exchange for placements in public schools for the 2026 academic year. The online admissions placement period commenced on 16 October, when the department began sending placement offers to parents and guardians in a gradual rollout. The department’s spokesperson, Steve Mabona, says parents must not pay anyone who claims they can secure a school placement:
# At least three crew members have been killed after a UPS freight transport aircraft crashed shortly after take-off near the Louisville international airport in Kentucky. Eleven people have been injured. Officials say the plane, which was bound for Hawaii, crashed into an area that includes a petroleum recycling business, further compounding the impact. Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear has described the crash as catastrophic, saying the death toll could rise as emergency crews go through the debris.
# Tennis: World number one Aryna Sabalenka claimed her second win in the WTA Finals in Riyadh and is closing in on a place in the semifinals. The Belarusian defeated American Jessica Pegula, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3, but required a straight-set win to confirm progression from the Stefanie Graf Group. Defending champion American Coco Gauff kept her hopes of reaching the knockout stages alive with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Italian Jasmine Paolini, who has been eliminated. Sabalenka says she remains confident of reaching the semifinal:
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-50-cents and the euro at 20-rand-9-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-76-cents and Bitcoin trades at 102-thousand-19-dollars. Gold sells at three-thousand-953-dollars-79-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 64-dollars-9-cents a barrel.
