Good morning. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# Ronald Lamola calls for a stronger UN General Assembly role
# The GOOD Party welcomes the court ruling in favour of the apartheid victims
# And rugby: The Springboks clinch second successive Rugby Championship title
# International Relations and Cooperation minister Ronald Lamola says the UN General Assembly’s central role in global governance must be strengthened to empower member states. Speaking at the 22nd Nordic-Africa Foreign Ministers Meeting in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, Lamola emphasised the need for reform of the Security Council in line with the Ezulwini Consensus. He also called for fairer global financial systems to ensure Africa benefits more from disaster resilience funding:
# The GOOD Party has welcomed the Pretoria High Court’s decision dismissing president Cyril Ramaphosa and the government’s bid to indefinitely postpone a 167-million-rand damages case brought by apartheid victims and the Foundation for Human Rights. In a statement, the party says uncovering the truth behind delays in Truth and Reconciliation Commission cases is vital to restoring integrity in South Africa’s justice system. It condemned political interference for fostering a culture of impunity, calling the ruling a critical step toward accountability.
# The United Democratic Movement in Cape Town has expressed concern over large-scale police raids linked to alleged 1.6-billion-rand fraud and corruption involving municipal contracts. The UDM’s Bongani Maqungwana says 26 properties, including officials’ homes, were searched and devices seized by SAPS investigators. He warns that recurring tender scandals and links to underworld figures erode public trust, calling for the suspension of implicated officials and swift prosecutions to ensure accountability:
# ActionSA national chairperson Michael Beaumont says the party is a people-centred brand of leadership with a proven service delivery record. Speaking in Thembisa, Ekurhuleni, Beaumont said the metro has become a neglected city of Gauteng, plagued by sewage spills, refuse pileups, and constant power and water cuts. He urged residents to vote differently, saying old political parties have failed municipalities, and it’s time to try something new with ActionSA’s leadership:
# The families of the two victims of the Manchester synagogue attack have paid tribute to them as heroes. Adrian Daulby and Melvin Cravitz were killed in the attack at Heaton Park synagogue in Crumpsall on Thursday. Daulby was shot accidentally when police opened fire on the attacker, Jihad al Shamie. Tributes for the men poured in as police arrested a man and two women on suspicion of terror offences, bringing the total number to six. The police also revealed the attacker had been on bail over a suspected rape, but wasn’t on the radar of counter-terror police.
# And rugby: In an almost repeat of the previous encounter with Argentina, the Boks came back in the second half of their final Rugby Championships match to overcome Los Pumas by 29-27. This is the Boks’ second successive Rugby Championship title. Played in front of a packed Allianz Stadium in London, the Argentinians scored first, leading 13 -10 at half-time. The Boks’ points came from two tries by scrum-half Cobus Reinach, two by Malcolm Marx, and two conversions and three penalties by Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu. Reinach was also named Man of the Match.
