# The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa has described South Africa’s case against Israel as possibly the most important court case in modern history. The International Court of Justice will today and tomorrow hear South Africa’s case accusing Israel of genocidal acts against Palestinians in Gaza. Numsa’s spokesperson, Phakamile Hlubi-Majola, says they are of the view that Israel is determined to wipe out the entire population of Palestine:
Meanwhile Namibia has also thrown its support behind South Africa’s move to end Israel’s military operations in Gaza. Israel is accused of committing genocide in contravention of the 1948 United Nations Genocide Convention. Namibia’s executive director in the ministry of International Relations and Cooperation, Penda Naanda, says they support international efforts promoting the rights of the Palestinian people:
# ANC deputy president Paul Mashatile has criticised former president Jacob Zuma and those leaving the ruling party, questioning whether they were ever really loyal to the party. Zuma is the public face of a recently registered political party named after the ANC’s armed wing, uMkhonto weSizwe. Mashatile says the party must move away from supporting those who are not what they seem and end up being a problem. Meanwhile, ANC Women’s League president, Sisi Tolashe, says Zuma and his fake MK soldiers must be ignored.
# KwaZulu-Natal police have launched a manhunt following the murder of Hawks detective Sikhetho Mawila. The 63-year-old was attached to the Hawks’ Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Investigation team, which was established by President Cyril Ramaphosa. Mawila’s body was found in an open field in Tsakane with two gunshot wounds and three stab wounds. Hawks national head, Godfrey Lebeya, has tasked a multidisciplinary team to investigate Mawila’s murder and ensure arrests are made urgently.
# Motorsport: Guenther Steiner has left his role as Team Principal of the Formula One Haas team with immediate effect. The Italian has been in charge of Haas since the team joined F1 in 2016. Haas owner, Gene Haas, says moving forward it is clear they need to improve on their track performances. The first race of the season is the Bahrain Grand Prix next month.
