# The minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Ronald Lamola, says restoring macroeconomic stability through prudent fiscal and monetary policy is essential. Lamola delivered a speech in Seville, Spain, at the Multi-Stakeholder Round Table under the theme Revitalising International Development Cooperation. He says improving debt management and collaborating with development finance institutions to share risk and provide guarantees can significantly enhance investor confidence:
# The DA says while president Cyril Ramaphosa continues to not take action against ANC corruption in the national executive, the party will use every means they can to fight it. The party will be laying criminal charges today against Higher Education minister Nobuhle Nkabane for lying to Parliament, ahead of the Education budget debate in the National Council of Provinces. The DA federal council chairperson, Helen Zille, the party’s deputy chief whip, Baxolile Nodaba, and national spokesperson Karabo Khakhau will lay the charges at Cape Town Central Police Station.
# A former human resources manager at New Hope School in Pretoria has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for defrauding the special needs school of over six-million-rand. The Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes Court found that Ralton Christopher Fischer committed eleven counts of fraud between 2018 and 2022. National Prosecuting Authority regional spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana says six years of the sentence are suspended for five years:
# President Donald Trump’s move to cut most of the US funding towards foreign humanitarian aid could cause more than 14-million additional deaths by 2030. According to research published in The Lancet medical journal on Monday, a third of those at risk of premature deaths are children. The report comes as dozens of world leaders are meeting in the Spanish city of Seville this week for a United Nations-led aid effort, the biggest one in a decade. Researchers estimated that USAID funding had prevented 91-million deaths in developing countries between 2001 and 2021.
# Soccer: Fluminense sent Inter Milan packing from the Club World Cup on Monday with a 2-0 win in Charlotte that took the Brazilian side through to the quarterfinals. A header by German Cano gave Fluminense an early lead, with substitute Hercules sealing their victory late in the second half. Fluminense is the second Brazilian side to make the last eight after Palmeiras had already sealed their quarterfinal spot. The Colombian winger Jhon Arias, who was named Man of the Match, said they are not only representing Fluminense but a whole continent.
