# Parliament is set to summon Higher Education and Training minister Nobuhle Nkabane to fully disclose the names of the advisory panel that helped appoint the Sector Education and Training Authorities board chairpersons. The review process aims to facilitate honest reflection and promote decisive action toward establishing a local government system that effectively serves citizens. Hlabisa says local government is where policies become services:
# Six armed suspects were killed in a shootout with police on the R61 road between Mthatha and Ngcobo in the Eastern Cape yesterday evening. Police spokesperson, Nobuntu Gantana, says the intelligence-driven operation targeted individuals suspected of involvement in extortion activities within the area. She says they stopped a vehicle the suspects were travelling in, and a shootout occurred:
# The European Union is warning that it may take action to increase pressure on Israel, unless the situation for Palestinians in Gaza improves. A review of the EU-Israel association agreement, a trade and cooperation pact, was triggered last month by 17 EU member states in protest at Israel’s blockade of humanitarian aid to Gaza. EU’s Foreign Affairs chief, Kaja Kallas, says it is clear that Israel had breached its human rights commitments in Gaza and the West Bank. She adds that the suffering of Palestinians must stop.
# Cricket: West Indies Women beat South Africa by six wickets to win the third and final T20 in Barbados and clinch the series 2-1. Twenty-year-old Miané Smit scored an unbeaten 59 as the Proteas posted 147 for six. In reply, captain Hayley Matthews struck 65 off 50 balls as the home side reached the target with nine balls to spare. This is the first time the West Indies have beaten South Africa in a bilateral series in 12-years.
