# AgriSA says the Tobacco Bill ignores agricultural livelihoods

# The Freedom Front Plus says genocide is a storm that is brewing in South Africa. The international organisation Genocide Watch has identified ten stages of genocide. According to the organisation, white farmers in the country are at stage six – polarisation. The FF Plus’, Wynand Boshoff, says characteristics of this stage include polarising statements and propaganda, the killing of moderate members of the aggressor group as well as members of the target group, and legislation that undermines self-defence:
# AgriSA says the Control of Tobacco Products and Electronic Delivery Systems Bill, in its current form, neglects to consider the broader implications on agricultural livelihoods. The legislation seeks to regulate the sale, advertising, packaging, and manufacturing of tobacco products, and to prohibit certain activities like vending machine sales and sales to minors. In its parliamentary submission, AgriSA says tobacco farming remains a vital income source for thousands of rural households, especially in provinces where alternative crops are not economically viable.
# Johannesburg Water has warned residents of a possible water outage today, as Rand Water will be conducting the first phase of major maintenance on its infrastructure. The phased approach will start with maintenance of the Palmiet system. Johannesburg Water’s spokesperson, Nombuso Shabalala, says for ten hours today, pumping will be reduced to 67-percent, which will result in poor pressure to no water for residents:
# The man who allegedly used a flamethrower and Molotov cocktails to set people on fire at a march in support of Israeli hostages in Boulder, Colorado, on Sunday has been charged. Twelve people were injured. Mohamed Sabry Soliman has been charged with a federal hate crime and 16 counts of attempted murder. The FBI is investigating this as an act of terrorism. Acting US Attorney for the District of Colorado, J Bishop Grewell, says Soliman will be held accountable for his actions:
# Tennis: Three-time champion Novak Djokovic has become the second man in history to reach 100 match wins at Roland Garros after Rafael Nadal. The Serb dispatched Britain’s Cameron Norrie, 6-2, 6-3, 6-2, to reach the quarterfinals for a 16th consecutive year. Top seed Jannik Sinner of Italy defeated Russia’s Andrey Rublev, 6-1, 6-3, 6-4, while Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik knocked out world number five Britain’s Jack Draper, 5-7, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4. Meanwhile, in the women’s draw, American Madison Keys defeated unseeded compatriot Hailey Baptiste, 6-3, 7-5.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-86-cents and the euro at 20-rand-41-cents. One British pound costs 24-rand-15-cents and Bitcoin trades at 105-thousand-696-dollars.
