# The DA in Western Cape urges action during child protection month
# En, motorists are urged to drive safely ahead of a busy weekend
# Energy regulator, Nersa, has approved the formation of an Electricity Market Advisory Forum. The forum will guide the regulator as the country prepares to open a competitive electricity market over the next five years. It will help finalise key rules and codes and ensure all stakeholders are ready for the changes. Nersa’s Charles Hlebela says the move marks a major step in strengthening oversight and encouraging broader participation in the electricity sector:
# The DA in the Western Cape has marked May as Child Protection Month. The party’s Wendy Kaizer-Philander says the province must unite in safeguarding children’s rights with a strong call to action. She referenced the disappearance of Joslin Smith, urging communities to work with government and child protection bodies. She calls for a turning point to protect every child:
# Mpumalanga’s MEC for Community Safety, Jackie Macie, has urged motorists to drive cautiously as the Metro FM Music Awards and Soweto Derby are both set to take place today. Macie warns that road crashes often claim lives, devastating families and the economy. He stressed to motorists to obey traffic laws, especially as workers return to work on Monday. The MEC also confirmed increased law enforcement visibility over the weekend.
# Prince Harry lost his appeal to restore his full UK police protection when visiting Britain. He argued that his family was at risk. Harry has been embroiled in the years-long legal saga since the UK government downgraded his security when he stepped down from royal life and left to live abroad. He was not present for the judgment at London’s Court of Appeal in which Judge Geoffrey Vos dismissed the appeal, saying the duke’s “sense of grievance” had failed to translate into a legal argument.
# And finally some tennis: Britain’s Jack Draper ousted Italian Lorenzo Musetti 6-3, 7-6 on Friday to set up a Madrid Open title showdown with Norwegian Casper Ruud. It will be Draper’s second Masters 1000 final of the year. Ruud squeezed into the 25th tour-level final of his career with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Argentine Francisco Cerundolo after a medical timeout because of chest and back discomfort. He lost both of his two previous Masters 1000 finals and will be gunning for his first title at this level on Sunday.
