# President Cyril Ramaphosa says Africa secured a “good outcome” at the Africa Union Summit with the installation of the new leadership. Ramaphosa is attending the the 38th Session of the African Union Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He says he believes that Summit has delivered a leadership that will respond to challenges facing the continent:
# Gauteng police have opened a case of murder following the discovery of six decomposed bodies next to an unused Diepkloof mine shaft 17, Soweto next to Nasrec, yesterday. All the bodies had their hands tied behind their backs. Police spokesperson, Mavela Masondo says the victims are suspected to be illegal miners. He says the police are investigating six cases of murder:
# The City of Cape Town is calling on all Cape Town-based entrepreneurs with a product or service that’s innovative and could positively impact community and beyond to apply for assistance from the Orange Corners’ Innovation Fund. Mayoral committee member for Economic Growth, James Vos says this is a 12-month scale-up programme that will be implemented by the City-funded Craft and Design Institute. He says the project is targeted at local businesses that focus on one or more of the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals:
# Israeli hostages Iair Horn, Sagui Dekel-Chen and Sasha Alexander Troufanov arrived at a release site in Gaza yesterday after Egyptian and Qatari mediators helped avert a standoff that threatened to sink a fragile ceasefire. Armed Hamas militants led the three onto a stage at the site in Gaza’s Khan Younis. The three were returned in exchange for 369 Palestinian prisoners and detainees, a swap which eased fears that the agreement could collapse before the end of a 42-day ceasefire.
# And rugby: The Sharks came away with a bonus-point win against the Bulls in their United Rugby Championship (URC) derby at Loftus yesterday. The Sharks scored three tries in a row in the second half, bringing the score to 29–19 against the Bulls on their home ground. The half-time score was 10-7 in the Sharks’ favour. And earlier in Johannesburg, the Lions beat the Stormers 30–23. After round 11 of the URC the Bulls are third and the Lions fourth on the URC points log.
