# The National Consumer Commission says automaker Volvo Car South Africa is recalling three of its models. The January 2023 XC90 model has a potential software failure in the brake control, while the October 2024 XC90 model has a rod between the brake pedal and brake booster that is not working correctly. The XC40 MY2024 has a turn indicator system issue. Meanwhile, the commission’s spokesperson, Phetho Ntaba, says seven Cape Herb and Spices products have been recalled, due to a grinder mechanism breaking during use, resulting in a hard plastic object being emitted:
# The DA has welcomed the establishment of the Small Business Enterprise Ombud Service, saying this is a significant step towards a fairer and more supportive environment for small enterprises. The Ombud will be tasked with adjudicating and disposing of complaints in terms of the National Small Enterprise Act in a procedurally fair manner. The DA says the Ombud will be instrumental in addressing key challenges facing small businesses, such as late payments, unfair contracts, and access to finance.
# The City of Tshwane council has successfully adopted the Municipal Finance Management Act Budget Reports, in line with the Local Government Municipal Finance Management Act. The reports keep the council, National Treasury, Provincial Treasury and the public informed of the financial situation of the metro. The mayor’s spokesperson, Zintle Mahlati, says the reports were not tabled at the scheduled council meeting last Thursday, due to delays in the internal committee system:
# President Donald Trump says the US could take over the Gaza Strip, bringing great stability to the entire Middle East region. On Tuesday, he met with Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House. Trump also suggested that the entire Palestinian population of the Gaza Strip, more than two million people, should be relocated to countries including Jordan and Egypt. He described Gaza as a demolition site:
# Cricket: MI Cape Town defeated Paarl Royals by 39 runs in qualifier one at St George’s Park in Gqeberha, to book their place in the SA20 final for the first time. Ryan Rickelton and Rassie van der Dussen’s 87-run opening stand helped MI Cape Town post 199 for four. In reply, the Royals were bowled out for 160. The Royals will have another opportunity to reach the final when they play in Thursday’s second qualifier at Centurion, either against Sunrisers Eastern Cape or Joburg Super Kings.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-67-cents and the euro at 19-rand-38-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-29-cents and Bitcoin trades at 98-thousand-and 34-dollars. Gold sells at two-thousand-853-dollars-2-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 75-dollars-64-cents a barrel.
